A few months ago, my old Hoover gave one final death rattle as the bottom fell completely off. Which was a good thing, considering we had electrical tape
holding the cord together & it was only a matter of time before our house burned down during my weekly cleaning session. I tweeted out for suggestions, got a few but ended up going the expected route by purchasing…well, I can’t really do a call out because it’s just not nice or fair to any party involved but I will say that it rhymes with the guy on the right.
& I was pleased. My vacuum did it’s job, did it well, but when Oreck approached me to review their new Forever Series Gold vacuum, I hopped on the chance. Mainly because when I was vacuum shopping, there was very little reviewing or comparison. There was a lot of “I love my Hoover!” but no explanation. & everyone out there claimed “WE SUCK THE MOST!” but there was no real comparison as to who sucked in a good way & who just…sucked.
I was a little surprised when I unpacked my Oreck vacuum & realized it was kind of old-school looking. & that the attachments weren’t for the upright vacuum, but for the Ultimate Handheld Vacuum Cleaner.
Remember how your momma always told you to not judge a book by it’s cover? YEAH. THAT.

Short & sweet? While it’s awkward having two different vacuums where most combine the two, there is a huge difference & advantage. Because the upright doesn’t have the extra parts, it is super-light. It almost seems to propel itself & both Doug & I prefer it to our old vacuum. It lies almost flat in motion to reach under beds, which means that the dog hair under the bed has finally met it’s match without me having to lift the mattress. Because it’s lacking the bulk of the attachments, there’s space for an extra-long cord (35 ft!) so that I can make it through the entire floor level without having to switch outlets. Also, the HEPA bag is excellent for my asthma, meaning that nothing gets kicked back into the air – it’s all trapped in the bag.
& the Ultimate Handheld? HELLO, MY NEW LOVAH. No more lugging a vacuum up & down stairs, balancing it on stairs while trying to find the right attachment. I just sling it over my shoulder & hop up & down the stairs. The attachments hook right on & the extra-long cord means that I can tackle the windows & drapes in the dining room, move up the stairs, & get the fan blades in the loft without any readjustment.
So how does it compare?
The Oreck & rhymes-with-bison are comparable suck-wise. My floors are wonderfully clean. The Oreck Forever Series Gold is lighter & has a longer cord, which makes it easier to pull it out for a quick clean after dinner. On the rhymes-with-bison, it is all in one package, so it is heavier & bulkier with a shorter cord. On the other hand, the maneuverability of the Ultimate Handheld cannot be beat. I’ve found myself gravitating towards the Oreck every time, even though I had once been so stoked to join the rhymes-with-bison club a year ago.
(I kept my mouth shut & handed Doug the Oreck to see which he likes & hands-down, he prefers the Oreck.)
So here’s the lovely part for you! One of you will win an Oreck Forever Series Gold vacuum & the Ultimate Handheld, valued at $599.

Oh, how life changes once you are a wife & mother…winning a new vacuum becomes stellar news! From visiting their website I learned the vacuum has premium horsehair edge brushes, which must mean my vacuum with synthetic brushes is a super loser when it comes to cleaning
I would love a new vacuum! I can’t even vacuum half of our downstairs without it over heating. The two vacuum system sounds awesome! I don’t know how many times I have almost killed myself trying to vacuum our stairs. I also love the fact that it lays almost flat, so that I can get under beds, couches, and tables.
I was so impressed with your description that I almost entered … and then I remembered we no longer have carpet in our house!
This vacuum has a Hepa filter that traps 99.97% of patricles from the air. I’d love to have one of these! Our vacuum is about to die and I could never afford a $500 vacuum.
I had no idea the Oreck was a two part system. That is a great idea and I’m sure it makes the vacuum much lighter!
I followed Oreck on Twitter . . . I am wondering what a vacuum tweets . . . “Today sucked”?
I like the sound of thier lifetime warranty! I really need a new vacuum, this would be great!
This is the MOST exciting giveaway you’ve done! I would absolutely love a new vacuum. I think the two part system is very cool. I’d feel like a professional cleaner with it strapped around my torso in true Chewbacca style.
Now to FB Oreck…
I love the low profile design. My rhymes with bison has damaged the legs of my couch and the baby’s crib. I could really use a new vacuum, winning this would make me so happy!
Honestly, I’ve never considered having two different vacuums but that’s brilliant. It makes so much sense to separate the functions of the vacuum so it can be used more efficiently and effectively.
I had no idea how light the Oreck is. I love that it lays down flat! Dust balls begone!!
Sounds like fun… if you can call vacuuming fun! I learned that it sits on its back wheels for ultimate maneuverability.
Reading about the two part system got me very excited! With two dogs that shed like crazy and a new baby in the house, I could really use something that would help me get rid of all that hair so she isn’t covered in it!
Oh wait…it works on hardwoods too? Hmm…off to investigate
Oooh! I love the baseboard brush!
I followed Oreck on Facebook!
The Hepa Filter captures almost 100% of the particles in the air. That is AWESOME!
35 foot cord, oh my! With a toddler we have those annoying plug covers on evey outlet. 35 feet would mean I don’t have to pry those suckers off in every room!
I have learned that i need a oreck in my life! 2 part system is fantastic and so helpful since my house has 2 flights of stairs!

I learned that Oreck’s HEPA filter and horse hair edge-bush action kick serious *ss!!
Oh my word, I learned about the bristle brush for the baseboards! Brilliant!! I HATE, HATE, HATE dusting the baseboards, so this little gizmo would help me so much!
I love me a lifetime warranty…except on my current one. Because it means i’ll never actually get to buy a new, better one. Of course, Winning one doesn’t count!!

I learned about the HEPA filter–our son has borderline asthma, and this vacuum would be AWESOME for our family for that reason!
Awesome! I learned that Oreck has a lifetime guarantee and a 35ft cord! Sign me up!!
I love that it is two separate systems, I never knew that Oreck did that. I scream at my dying machine every time I whip it out because the attachment case comes off and it’s just a PITA! I could really use a new vacuum!

I am All stoked about the stair capabilities!!! And fan blades……..and drapes…too much goodness in one package!
I’d love one because of the HEPA filter, lifetime warranty, and the fact that it only weighs 9 pounds. Plus I think I’d love the separate handheld.
I “like” Oreck on Facebook.
Love the horse hair bristles on the edge. I hate not being able to get the edges clean.
Also, 3 free annual tuneups! I imagine maintenance helps with the lifetime of a vacuum, which for me is about 3 years.

It has headlights! Headlights are super cool.
OMG BA that is by far the best review on a product I have read! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the video, you are hilarious!!!
Oh, and I went to Oreck and learned that they have a car vac, which is fantastic because I’m constantly lugging our own rhymes-with-bison outside to vacuum goldfish and animal crackers out of every forseeable crevice in my Civic.

I am always blown away when I hear of a company approaching a blogger to give & review a product. You are lucky duck!
What I learned is you can use a steam mop for counter tops?? Is it bad that this idea interests me & grosses me kinda at the same time??
Oh & can I get extra points for actually having “vacuum cleaner” on my Christmas wish list?? lol
I learned that the HEPA Filter will capture 99.7% of particles which is great for allergy sufferers like my family. By the way your video was the jam!!!
I learned this vacuum is assembled in the good ole US of A! Sounds like it really sucks! Thank you!
Lifetime warranty? Nothing better than that!
I just saw that the Oreck Forever Series Gold has two speeds – I would love to see how that works. With two dogs, who shed their ever-lovin’ minds like crazy, a cat and a hairy husband (sorry sweetie), I am constantly vacuuming to make the house a bit cleaner for my little guy who gets up-close and personal with the floor on a regular basis. Unfortunately, my broke-down vacuum doesn’t do the job so well – I would love to try the Oreck after your fantastic review!
the last vaccum I ever have to buy?! wow. so we are still using our “college” years cheapo vac and this looks like a great option for our growing family years.
You had me at baseboard brush. Oh my god, I need this in my ilfe!!
I didn’t know you could make monthly payments, that sounds great for us! We put the cheapest vacuum on our wedding registry to save our poor family and friends a few bucks, but you really get what you pay for. It’s a piece of crap and I also have asthma, so an upgrade would be awesome!
I’m an Oreck twitter follower
I think it’s pretty cool that it has a 2 speed motor. Fancy!
3 annual tune-ups included equal worry-free maintenance!!!! How awesome would that be??!!! I wouldn’t have to worry about it! yay for give-aways!
Loved the video! I like that it sucks up near the baseboards because I hate getting the extension wand out and doing that!
I learned that the products are made in America! Yay USA
.
Wow, only 9 lbs! That’s impressive. I’m also loving the idea of vacuming hard to reach areas, without switching to an attachment!
Oreck, you had me at lifetime warranty!
Oooooh! Pick me! Pick me! I love that you get three annual tune-ups, because it seems as though my current vacuum situation always involves me paying to get it looked at. And I also have a “rhymes-with-bison” that is so freakin’ heavy I never want to clean my stairs – I’ve actually borrowed my mom’s Oreck handheld, so it would be so nice to have my own!

Oh man, this would be so awesome! We have a ton of stairs. I learned about their warranty, sounds great and includes 3 annual tune ups!
So, am I the only one that was like “rhymes with buffalo? What tha?” Yes? Ok, moving on……
I learned it’s great for people with pets and kids… of which we have both, so we desperately need this beauty of a vacuum.
I am amazed that the upright only weighs 9 lbs! Way lighter than my bulky Bissell. I also have asthma so the HEPA bag would be great for me!

Lifetime Warrenty! I’ve never had a vaccuum that lasted more than 2 years.
I was actually just considering putting a new vacuum on my Christmas List and then decided I’m not QUITE there yet. However living in the country amidst gravel dust, farm animals and muddy husbands I could very much use a new vacuum. I am loving the lifetime warranty, HEPA filter and the extremely long cord you told us about! Thanks for the opportunity

It has a DUSTING BRUSH??? We did our yearly “let’s move furniture so Christmas can throw up everywhere” clean last weekend. Seeing the state of the baseboards, walls and various other areas this new momma has been neglecting, I think, no I KNOW, I need that. And it only weighs nine pounds? Psssh, my girl hasn’t been that light since week two. Sold.
A 35ft. cord? Seriously? That’s awesome!

It has a 35 ft cord!! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to stop vacuuming to unplug.
Plus, ours is currently on its way out the door. Just in time for moving. Yeah!!!

It has a long lasting belt which would be good for the dog hair. And 9 lbs sounds awesome!
It has HEADLIGHTS?? Wow! I’d love a vacuum with headlights!
I like Oreck on Facebook.
I am suprised it’s only 9 lbs. That’s hard to beat. My rhymes with Bison does a great job but it is a BEAST.
Question for you: how do you feel about going back to traditional bags? I like not dealing with them on the dyson but at the same time, there is nothing more revolting to me than my husband deciding to dump it in the kitchen trash and not take the garbage bag out, so when i throw something away later, a cloud of dander/skin cells/who-knows comes billowing out of the trash. YUCK.
Having a shetland sheepdog that sheds NONstop, I thought a ryhymes with bison would be the way to go, but a two part system like the Oreck is great because we also have many steps to cover in our home and handheld sounds perfect for that!
Following Oreck on Fb, too!
It sounds amazing- bring on the two speed motor! I have a little one who loves to crawl, and a dog who sheds like it’s her job, so this is definitely needed.
I also think 9lbs (minus the dirt) is an awesome weight for a vacuum!
(I liked Oreck on FB.)
Love the idea of the bristle brush for the baseboards!
OMG I die for vacums. Literally. I love love love vacuming. I learned that the gold series has a 35 ft cord!!! LOVE. I liked them on FB and also followed them on Twitter
I hope I win!!!
First I learned that the version Oreck is giving you to give away doesn’t include the little hand-held vacuum
I also discovered that, apparently, vacuums should have annual tune-ups?! I love the bristle/baseboard cleaner though… man that alone is worth it.
it does!! I messed up, but yes, you get the upright & the handheld!
Lifetime Warranty! Free tune-ups! Sign me up!
Oh, man. I went to the Oreck website and I’m looking around and I can’t stop thinking of suck/suction jokes. I learned from their little photo that typical bagless vacuums have a crazy complicated suction path. So I guess the Oreck’s direct suction path makes it a more powerful sucker. (!!!)
I like Oreck on FaceSpace.
i like htat it has a 35 foot cord, and headlights! in case i want to use it in the dark LOL
liked Oreck on FB… I really want to win!

The Forever Series Gold weighs only 9 lbs? That’s significantly less than my 4.5 month old baby girl. I’ll take it! We’d love to have a new Oreck as our ancient one (bless its long-lasting heart) also has a duct-taped cord (that’s not baby proof? what?) and has no attachments so I can’t get dust bunnies out of corners or off ceilings. This new mama could use a little help from Oreck to keep her house clean for baby & lookin’ fab for hubby!
