Maybe it’s me being a “veteran” to blogging conferences. Or that I have been way overstretched lately. It’s probably just that I run around with my head up my own ass 90% of the time.
In a few days, I am hopping on a plane & jetting across THE ENTIRE COUNTRY. I will step foot in California for the first time IN MY LIFE. I will hug the necks of HER & HER & HER & HER & HER & HER (& lots more). I will probably see LIONS, & TIGERS, & BEARS, OH MY! at the San Diego Zoo. There may or may not be red-eye flights & lots of Klonipin involved.
Last year, I was all Type-A Typical-BA with color-coded calendars of events, new outfits, fresh hair color, & a pedicure. This year? umm…
(& I won’t even dare to show you my eyebrows.)
I’m also sacraficing fashion & shoes at a lightening speed in order to travel with a carry-on & not have to shell $25 to check luggage. So when you see the girl rocking the same jeans the entire conference & somehow she’s wearing flipflops with her cocktail dress, it’s because I’m STICKING IT TO THE MAN by traveling light.
It’s a good thing that I am going to learn & make connections & write to my wee heart’s content, all thanks to the incredible folks at Jockey for sponsoring my trip.
(also? don’t even get me started on leaving harry for five days. denial is not just a river in egypt.)

I think this might be the most refreshing BlogHer post I’ve ever read. Seriously. Most of them scare the hell out of me from ever wanting to attend a blogging conference between all the advice and fashion and warnings and fashion and… did I mention the fashion?
Go. Have fun. Learn a bunch of stuff about blogging that you’ll probably never use. Because you’re the most non-conformist blogger I know and somehow it just WORKS for you.
(Just kidding – I’m sure you’ll get a lot out of BlogHer. You know… besides the fashion.)
DUDE… you’ll only be about 4 hours from me!!
The earth just might shake…Two BA’s in the same time zone just might be too much to handle.
Have fun!…can I just ask…WHAT is that necklace in you new pic..and WHERE can I get one…sorry…was that about fashion?…anywhoo have fun!
Have fun on the West Coast lady. I hope you have a blast!
This is the first BlogHer post that I’ve read that has finally calmed my shit down. I was freaking out that I’d look out of place, my clothes weren’t right, I would need tons of luggage, etc. etc. etc….you have calmed my fears.
Can’t wait to meet you.
We’re going to have so much fun. Whether super planned like newbie-me has done or not so much like laid-back bloggy conf vet you! LOL that I’m off to get a manicure tomorrow bc my nails currently look very much like yours, but pink!
Have so much fun!
Good for you for saving your $25 hard earned dollars for something better than checking luggage! Have a great time at the conference …….I think in California flip-flops are the shoe of choice with a cocktail dress!
i feel weird that, even though this is my first blogher, i’m not going crazy. i’m sort of trying to take it in stride and understand that i am who i am, i hope i appeal to others there, and that i’m a pretty gosh darn interesting person to be around, so that’s all i can do.
i hope to run into you!
I can’t believe they charge 25 bucks to check luggage these days…hope you can fit all your goodies in a little carry on, I don’t think I could!
When you’re at the San Diego zoo, look for the cutouts of animals or the replicas, they make for great pictures. My wife and I took some AWESOME pictures with those. One may have involved me on all 4s baring my teeth at the fake wolverine and one of hers may have been grabbing her butt in pain next to a mammoth’s tusk.
Um, so I did not realize that Blogher is in San Diego this year- and since I live here, I can tell you that we are having BEAUTIFUL weather right now and the shopping is ah-mazing, so pack light
Have fun!
Hey, in SoCal flip-flops go with EVERYTHING. For serious. Cocktail party? Flip-flops. Wedding? Flip-flops. Funeral? Flip-flops. Black ones.
Before I moved to California, I had one pair of these shoes. Then I moved to San Diego and now I own at least ten; all for various occasions. Your style for BlogHer has nothing to do with your lack of enthusiasm, your subconscious just realized that you’ll be in a place where low-key is the name of the fashion game. Have an awesome time here in SD!
I’m so excited that you’ll be coming to California for the first time! It’s my home state and I am so happy to share it with new people (even if I never get to see them when they’re here). You’ll love San Diego. It’s so gorgeous.
Also, amen for your nice, non-crazy Blogher plan. I wish I was going so we could trade bitchfaces and then cut the crap and have some fun.
I hope you enjoy every minute!!
And I will hug your neck, missy! HARD.
I have a color-coded calendar.
10 pairs of shoes in my luggage.
new dresses.
Hell, I even have a third of a sponsor now!
Squeeee! Can you tell I’m a newbie? I’m sure I will regret bringing more than half of what I brought. But I can’t help it! Squeeeee!
Wait, I already said that!
As usual – I’m so jealous… as usual – I’ll be living vicariously through tweets of yours and others….
Have so much fun!
Didn’t Kate Middleton wear the same pair of jeans 3 times during their N. America trip? If she can do it then you can do it!
I’m right there with ya! I’m heading to a conference in GA next week & I’ll be gone for 4 days. This will be the longest that I’ve ever been away from Chloe. My heart’s already breaking & I don’t leave until the 11th! Thankfully, I’ll be road tripping with a few other ladies with the company, so I can pack the 20+ outfits that I may or may not have already laid out & planned. (totally may) also? There’s not even anxiety medication in the world to get this nervous tushy on a plane.
Have fun @ BlogHer!
Jealous. That’s me.
I went to the Stella & Dot conference last month in much the same fashion. I had the CRAZIEST weeks of my life leading up to it. I pretty much threw clothes, 3 pairs of shoes & jewelry in a vera bradley bag and boarded a plane. Guess what!? I lived
& had a great time. (Although I did have to buy a jacket (full price! argh!) at the Gap. When people say San Fran is cold, it really is cold!!) Anyway, when there’s 2000 women in one place, no one is really looking at you anyway.
Have a great time! I can’t wait to follow your tweets
I was too cheap to get a pedi for my vacation – you should see my toes.
San Diego! I hope you love it! We have crazy drivers (like, seriously) but the rest of the city is amazing, I love it and you couldn’t drag me outta here if you took my computer hostage (that’s pretty serious stuff man). The San Diego zoo is great (I have an annual pass, and the otter and elephant exhibits are my fav) but you’ve got to stroll through Balboa park (it’s right next door) while you’re here, check out the beach (preferably sunset cliffs), and you really can’t miss downtown San Diego! Email me if you want more suggestions or have any questions, I’d be happy to help! (:

Looking forward to stealing a quick BA hug again this year. {i am packing light on the clothes too}
I won’t be at Blog Her, but you know I live in San Diego. I have year round zoo passes. If you all go to the zoo, I can take a break from the wedding planning and sneak off to the zoo with Jake and get someone in for free
I bow down to your light packing skills. If you’re able to pull that shiz off, you’re my new hero. See you SOON!
You lucky lucky person! I wish I was going to blogher, but since it’s on the other side of the planet (almost) I wont be.. Looking forwards to hear all about it on your blog!!
And you’re stickin it to the gals since you’ll be able to dance the night away without sore feet the next day
Don’t stress about leaving your precious boy for 5 days. I just had to leave mine for 5 days as well (had my thyroid radiated, and apparently being around an almost 2 year old when you’re radioactive is a bad idea) It will fly by and you’ll be squeezing him in your arms before you know it
Have fun in sunny San Diego!! I’ve only been there once and have never been to the SD zoo and I live 6 hours away, aghh!
That IS packing light! I thought I was going light (and I live here!), but you’ve got the crown!
Hope we get to meet
I’m packed for two people in one suitcase.
I done got my eyebrows and my lip waxed (shh don’t tell about the lip.)
IZ REDDY FOR SQUEEEZING!!
You are going to love CA. The weather is a little yuck right now but seeing as though you packed lightly you will be fine! As the PP have stated, we are a flip flop state, I would die if I went a day without my sandals, actually I would go into convulsions. serious. Hopefully I will be able to meet you, have been a follower for a long time.
And thanks for the calming post, I am a first timer.
Welcome to CA! I’m in Sac, so if you’re totally bored, head north and we’ll find some fun trouble to get ourselves into! Hope you have a fabulous trip.
