I should just go ahead & say my goodbye’s because I have shit luck, which means I will be dying of lyme disease in the next few weeks.

This thing itches like a rat in a wool sock.
I’m a goner for sure.

No tick bites!!! They freak me out yo!
The other night my neck was itchy so I reached back to scratch and felt something that felt like a pimple, but then I was able to peel it off, I thought it was goo from Finley or Ezra, ya know like priate booty all mushy on my neck or something? Oh no, it was a tick, I screamed, flicked it off my finger and ran! LOL…yuck!
Being country folks (we live in the middle of the woods, basically), tick checks are unfortunately a daily occurrence if we’ve been outside. Some cortisone creme will help with the itch and reduce the redness. It will probably stay red for several days (it’s your body’s allergic reaction to the bite). See a doctor if you develop a “halo” around the actual bite.
i took a tick off my lower back last week.
it had my flesh in it’s mouth. i died right there.
for real. this is my ghost.
EEKS!! I would feel 100% violated.
Don’t die. I love you too much
Luckily deer ticks don’t usually carry Lyme Disease and provided it wasn’t sitting there for too long you should be completely clear of all diseases since it generally takes a few days of being attached for them to transmit disease (my brother is a forester).
Good!
(but I thought the female deer tick was the number one carrier of Lyme Disease?)
We didn’t really have ticks where I grew up (at least they weren’t a common occurrence), so now that we have them here, they FREAK ME OUT. My husband is constantly coming over to my screaming self to tell me that no, that bug on the wall is NOT a tick.
Eeeek, I don’t think we have ticks in Seattle… riiiiight?!?
I had lyme disease in high school. I never found the tick, but I got the classic Target-lookin’ rash. I felt like crap for a few months and had to have antibiotics, but I didn’t die
I had Lyme disease last spring.. It was miserable and a few weeks of antibiotics.. Hope you don’t get it.
Hey-o! Lyme disease survivor over here. I also (a) saw the tick (b) removed the tick (well, hubs did…and then put it in a bag…and studied it…and googled proper tick disposal…err…) and (c) saw the rash instantly and got meds right quick. If you catch things quickly and keep a close eye on it you should really be OK. Antibiotics suck and make you feel like crap cus that’s just how they work but you’ll be OK. <–said while knocking on wood, just in case. Good luck!
Oh, hell no am I gonna get a tick on me. So, um. how does one avoid this? Is there tick spray? It’s like exchanging one poison for another isn’t it.
I bet you’re going to have nightmares about them now, too.
Remind me at BlogHer & I’ll tell you the story of the tick head that stayed in my back for the better part of a decade.
At least you found it while in pretty lighting…..?
that, right there, is why i live in LA.
oh god, try living in upstate NY and talk to me about ticks. We pick at least 3 off of ourselves and the kids every week. It’s awesome.
I had lyme really bad as a teenager, I mean IV for 3 months because the antibiotics weren’t working kind of Lyme. ANd I never found a tick, or a bullseye. My mother actually took me to the Dr because I was sleeping too much and she thought I was on drugs. Shocker for her to find out her sweet innocent child was just sick!
You’ll be okay, if you’re really concerned the Dr will treat you with a 30 day round of antibiotics to be safe.
eeek! don’t die! don’t die!
(jenevieve – sadly, we DO have ticks in LA… but you’d have to probably spend a few nights rolling around in Griffith Park to get one on you…)
i had a dream about ticks the other night. creepy.
I don’t think Kate is correct… I grew up in MA and it was drilled into our heads that deer ticks carry Lyme disease. The big ones called dog ticks or wood ticks do not.
In your shoes I would probably take a course of antibiotics just in case. Grated promptly Lyme is no big deal. Untreated it can cause huge problems… not trying to scare you, I have just known SO many people who had or have it back East.
*treated* promptly, Damn you autocorrect.
Boo tick!
Yay Blair!
I’m suddenly feeling much better about what appears to be a spider infestation in my house. But I’m still feeling all itchy.
