The Monkey Fairy.

We couldn’t find Templeton last night.

(Templeton is the name of Harry’s beloved stuffed monkey.)

It was pretty much a travesty, but thanks to a good friend, we had an extra monkey to hand him at bedtime.  Nate leaned over & placed Placebo Templeton in Harrison’s arms & we held our breath.  A side-eye from the toddler & we knew that he knew, but thankfully he rolled over & promptly closed his eyes.

Later that night, I found the original Templeton laying on my desk.  I snuck inside the nursery & placed him beside the sleeping Harrison, figuring an extra monkey never hurt anyone.

This morning at 6:15am,  a cry of happiness from the nursery rang out through the house.  TWO MONKEYS!  ZOMG TODDLER HEAD EXPLOSION HOLY SHIT ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG!!!!!!!!  TWO MONKEYS!  Who gives a deuce about Santa or the Tooth Fairy, because there is a MONKEY FAIRY!  & she brings TWO MOTHER EFFING MONKEYS!!!!

I think it’s safe to say that Harrison had a pretty kick-ass start to the day.

I about peed myself at “TWO MOTHER EFFING MONKEYS!!!!”

I believe I’m going to being saying this for the rest of the day. Thanks for the laugh!!

  2. Amanda says:

My son has a monkey fetish too…and squees when he finds one of the extra filler monkeys floating around.

    Very cute!

  3. Ha! I’m imagining the cry of happiness suddenly ringing out from behind closed doors at the crack of dawn this morning and it makes me laugh.

We have Lambie and Back-up Lambie for V. One day, she somehow got hold of both of them. At the same time. She just sat there and looked back and forth between them. It’s was like, “Well… here’s Lambie. But… [looks to her other hand with confusion] HERE’S Lambie, too!” So, I’m familiar with the ‘toddler head explosion’ look. :)

This post would not be complete without the awesome graphics you included. Cracking up over here.

  5. Alyssa says:

    He’s such a cutey :)

We have two of my daughter’s loveys as well (it’s a stuffy/blanky thing). Anyways, I’d recommend not letting Harrison really know that there are TWO monkeys; either he’ll lose both and you’ll have no backup, or he’ll always want TWO monkeys and if you lose one of them you won’t have that second one. Know what I mean?

  6. claudia235 says:

Haha! That’s great that he took Placebo Templeton and fell asleep. My daughter wants nothing to do with Placebo George (her stuffed monkey), needless to say I keep that monkey on lockdown in her crib.

  7. molly says:

    Ha! that is too cute!

Landon must sleep with two Elmos. If there is only one he will ask, “Where is other Elmo?”

    Spoiled, much? ;)

  8. Stephanie says:

Love it. This put a smile on my face at the end of a very frustrating day. So thank you very much :)

  9. LIZ says:

    yeah, i needed this post.
    thanks for the giggle.

    Best.post.ever.

  11. We had to do the same thing with Seahorse – we had to buy a replacement when we left Seahorse at daycare one day. I haven’t let the two Seahorses meet though for fear of totally blowing my child’s mind.

  12. Sarah says:

I bet those cries of happiness made YOUR day too! Too much!

  13. Rebekah says:

    awww. cute.
Templeton? like the rat from Charlotte’s Web?

  14. Missy says:

LOL! That’s flippin’ hilarious! My little guy does the same thing with his “baby”. We have 4 of the little monkey head with the blanket as the body…you know, by Carters. I have no idea what they are actually called! But we get the same freak out when he finds 2.

  15. Anne-Clark says:

Ha! S has three… yes three bunnies. Luva bunnies as the are known around these parts.
I bought two as back ups but they have migrated into his life and if one is missing or in the wash… HE KNOWS. Usually one stays in his room , my rule so we won’t lose all three at once causing a meltdown, and the other two are either over each shoulder or grasped in his sweet little pb&j covered fingers.
    Toddlers rock.

  16. Steph says:

First of all, now I’ve got songs from Charlotte’s Web stuck in my head (the rat’s name was Templeton). So thanks for that.

Secondly, my kid named his gigantic lizard plush Randall. And he acts that way if he has misplaced Randall and then suddenly finds him again. ZOMFG IT’S RAAAAAAAAAANDALLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

  17. Jen says:

The first thing that comes to mind when I hear Templeton is the rye whiskey. :)

    Harrison is such a QT!

  18. Cole says:

I only have one monkey {Mommy has tried EVERYWHERE to find a back-up, but can’t find one}, so we are *very* careful with him.

  19. Crystal says:

love it! Thanks for the laugh!

  20. Adam says:

The MOTHER EFFING MONKEY reminded me of Despicable Me when the girl wins the big stuffed animal and she walks away and screams “IT’S SO FLUFFY!!!”

  21. Kate says:

My two year old son didn’t get attached to any particular toy until he became obsessed with his puppy a few months ago at which point I promptly ran out and bought two more just in case he ever got lost. Every time puppy needs a wash I switch him out with one of the others and they rotate through that way. My husband thought I was being a little silly but then he couldn’t find puppy the other night at bedtime and was very relieved that I could just pull another one out of the closet. I did however make sure we found the missing puppy and put him in the closet before we went to bed.

  22. Libby says:

Now just be ready…we had a backup blankie and when he figured out there were 2, he absolutely INSISTS on having both!! Not typically a problem, but can be when one is lost…only having one isn’t good enough! :)

  23. K.S. says:

OMG, this is the Blair I know and love from way back in TB days! Bring more of this please. Absolutely hilarious!

  24. gus spied the back up “puppy” sitting on our dresser once and had pretty much the same reaction.

    “onetwo puppies!! ONETWOFEE PUPPIES!!!”

  25. Karen says:

Died. The idea of a toddler losing his shit over two monkeys does me in. :)

  26. Bonita says:

LOLZ! This made me laugh so hard that I cried… No really! Thanks for sharing; your boy Harrison is so gorgeous Blair. > U <

    HA! That’s hilariously adorable.

  28. Rachel says:

    best. post. EVER!

  29. dena says:

Yea, definitely hide TempletonTwo when you get home. My cousin had a stuffed Peter Rabbit that was her lovey. Well one day she stumbled upon Backup Peter. So from that point on they were Two Peters and she had to carry them BOTH around with her. THEN she stumbled upon Backup Peter Part Deux…yep, you guessed it. A little toddler lugging around THREE stuffed rabbits. Each progressively more love-worn than the last.

  30. Jo Green says:

I agree with the suggestions about hiding the back up, or your toddler posse will get increasingly more large as time goes on! Great story though! Made me smile!

  31. Katie says:

I love that the monkey’s name is Templeton, instead of something pathetic and babyish. Just my opinion. My niece’s favorite stuffed toy (a gift from me!), a duck, is named Douglas. :)

  32. MarMat says:

    hilarious!!
    :::: dead ::::

and I totally second… please more of this posts…

  33. Devon says:

This is hysterical. I very rarely laugh out loud when I read things on the internet, but I laughed so hard at this that tears streamed down my face!

  34. kim says:

i just clicked over to your 1st post about Templeton b/c that monkey is over the moon cute. And I need him. My brother and SIL are having a baby and monkey’s are the theme. And I need that monkey. But $75.00 ? I’m seriously hoping this twat has left e-bay and there are some Tempeltons to be found. Oh, and Harrison is way cute and I’m glad he found BOTH his Templetons. :) (Nope, no bitterness there. Honest) ;)

  35. Erin says:

I adore Placebo Templeton – we have “pretend puppy” and “Puppy Arm” (appendage that was loved off of the actual ‘Puppy’) –

these are what I can offer at bedtime when the WAILS begin –

this post was so dear to my heart – my oldest has 2 identical “Elles’ and a Grover – Middle has “Puppy” and my baby girl has “blankie”

my husband is SO over it – but I am fine with them loving thier “guys” until forever:)
