Valentine’s Pledge.

Today, I shall not eat bagels provided for the holiday. I will stay away from the bowl of Hershey’s Kisses in the work room. I will limit myself to one red velvet cuppycake, lovingly made by my husband for dessert. I will not run to Target & stock up on 50% off candy, or validate the need for a bag of fun-sized Snickers because they’re “such a steal.”

Tonight, I will make a homemade meal that is healthy & yummy instead of turning to a frozen Stouffers lasagna & Texas Toast. If the weather stays mild past Harrison’s bedtime, I may lace up my sneakers & pound the pavement for the first time in weeks. Instead of lounging on the couch because it’s a “holiday” with Gossip Girl, I will challenge my husband to a Just Dance 2 duel & burn off my love handles.

Because I have made healthy choices throughout the day & revved up my endorphins, I will not feel ashamed or shy at the end of the day when it’s time to get my lovin’ on. Instead, I will embrace the stretch marks & know that I am making choices to be healthy, fit, & whole. & that makes me sexy & worthy of his attentions.

Today, I will not get wrapped up in celebrating a Hallmark holiday that urges me to love others. Instead, I will make wise choices that will help me love myself all year ’round.

Signed,
Me
