Traveling while weight-watching is not easy. There’s airport food & restaurants & not knowing when/how/if you will eat on a regular basis. & if your food is provided, what will it be like? What if they serve hamburgers the entire time, or fast food on the road is the only option?
The good news – I got lucky with Blissdom this past weekend.
I accepted a water & small bag of pretzels on the plane as a snack. When I arrived at Opryland, I did a little wandering around on my own & settled into a pizzaria to have lunch & do some office work that I brought with me. I settled on a slice of cheese (thin crust) & a side salad – a big step for me because I am not one to grab a salad. I’m glad I did, though, because that evening’s supper meant a cheeseburger. umm, holy cheeseburger, Batman – the thing had TWO patties on it, so I took off one in absolute horror. Two patties? For real? No wonder America is fat.
The interesting thing about Blissdom was the food – it was tasty for the most part, but I think that for the first time in forever, I was served actual recommended portion sizes. & while I walked away satisfied, I didn’t walk away feeling like I needed a nap & an oil change.
It was nice. & a good learning exercise.
That whole “eating until you pop/clean your plate” thing is so over-rated & I am officially done with it.
I even got my fitness on at Blissdom with a power walk on Friday morning. Even though walking around that acres-huge hotel in 3-inch heels should count as a fitness regime. Seriously.
I didn’t lose any weight, but I didn’t gain. Which was pretty much my goal for being out of town for four days. p.s. my fat-size black work slacks are falling off of me & I’m down a belt-notch.
But I also have to say that seeing pictures of myself at Blissdom is making me so thankful that I’m back on McFatty Mondays. I managed to make it to Nashville with one suitcase, two carry-ons, & three chins.
What did you learn this week? Any new tips? Breakthroughs? I would love to hear them!

Kudos to you! I think breaking even while traveling is commendable. It certainly isn’t easy to go away and get out of your “normal” and not gain, you know?
Good job!
I found traveling is hard to keep to a diet- you’ll hear my story next week.
But no gain is always a plus. I am seeing a breakthrough too. I can make “bad” choices and still be healthy about them- and a lot of has to do with portion size.
Good job not gaining in Nashville. And the pic I saw of you on twitter looked amazing.
I am amazed by the stories behind weight loss/gain. McFatty Monday isn’t just a weigh in.. . .It’s a social experiment in vulnerability. You made something great, here!
that is great that your “fat” work pants are falling off & you’re down a belt notch!! those are the things that really count, in my book!!
Love the new link-list-thingy! (as you can tell I’m super technical)
Not gaining weight when traveling is the same to me as going to the casino and breaking even — it may not be what you dreamed of, but consider it a win that at least you didn’t do any damage! Good for you and I hope you had a great time!
Yay for you! I’m on that journey right now as well.
I’d love it if you had time to hop over to my blog and follow back
I enjoy getting emails everytime you update! Your blog is wonderful!
I had a similar experience this weekend, only mine was that I celebrated my birthday weekend without gaining any weight, and I;m down a pound and a half for the week!
…sounds like you did just fine on the food front. one small step for ba, one giant leap for… well… i’m not sure, nevermind. i need coffee.
just wanted to say good work!
I so so so get the struggle with eating until the plate is clean and/or my tummy is full. I’m so over it too and I know I shouldn’t do it, but I just can’t seem to help myself.
Perhaps I need to use smaller plates and force myself to make meals last longer so that I’ll actually feel full?
I totally agree about eating out on a diet. That has been one of the harder parts for me. I try not to do it at all but when you travel there isn’t much choice.
This week I learned that when you are optimistic and look forward to your results it makes the process so much easier.
My breakthrough was on Saturday night after dinner. I walked to the freezer to get a Weight Watcher ice cream sandwich and asked myself ( while holding the package) “Why am I getting this I’m not even hungry!” and I put it back! This was huge for me
Following your McFatty Monday project has kind of been a lesson to “own it” – both in the sense of taking active control and in not letting it get you down. So that’s the main thing I learned this week (and last week, etc). I think that can be called a breakthrough!
my sons 3rd birthday party was Saturday. I woke up at one weight, and Sunday I was 2 lbs heavier.
NFT.
Sounds like you did everything right! I guess the key for me is always moderation. Sure you CAN have a cookie– just don’t eat 5. I’m impressed you got some exercise in… I teach aerobics and even I have a hard time exercising when I go on a trip!
Great Job!
I, myself am down 10 lbs this morning and proud of myself!
Keep chuggin!
Awesome work! I love it when my pants are loose!
Right now my pants fit and aren’t too tight so I figure I’m going in the right direction. I was down 1.7 pounds this morning so I think I’m making strides.
First off…no worries, I am not a meandering douchebag. Or a ho-flaps or Ass bad for that matter.
It sounds like you did pretty well despite living out of a hotel room. And your pants being loose is a very, very good sign!
Keep up the good work!
You’re doing awesome! Seriously? You didn’t grab some fast, fatness-laden meal? You might just be my hero.
And I love “needing an oil change” afterward. Sooo true.
“I managed to make it to Nashville with one suitcase, two carry-ons, & three chins” you crack me up!
it’s all good girlfriend!
you are bee-yoo-tee-ful! i don’t wanna hear it
So lovely to meet you!
and ps- i have 2 chins in that awesome group shot you know
