I could actually button my pants by the end of the week. Amazing!

Things I Changed This Past Week:

  1. Water, water, water.  I pounded back a minimum of 90 oz of water each day.
  2. Because I was drinking so much H20, I dropped my afternoon Coke.  I don’t even know when or why I started drinking soda on the regular, because I never did until about a six weeks ago.  Monday without my Coke was ROUGH.  I missed the sugar rush & something to do, but a cup of tea & chewing gum helped.
  3. At a work event on Thursday, I stuck to a cup of coffee & ignored the bagels & juice.
  4. When I needed to stay in & work through lunch, I grabbed a Nutrisystem soup I had stored in my desk rather than grabbing a burger & fries.
  5. It was freezing cold on Saturday, so I walked the mall with a friend at 9am.  Yep, like an old person.  Speed walking + pushing a 25-lb kid in a stroller = burning legs.
  6. I said “no” to Texas Toast with dinner on Saturday night.  This is monumental, folks.
  7. Ordered a “skinny” with sugar-free syrup during Sunday’s stop at Starbucks.

Small steps, but they did make a difference.  I haven’t stepped on the scale, but by the end of the week, my pants buttoned more comfortably.  & I ordered a dress from Talbots for Blissdom/ADPi Silent Auction/high school reunion because it was stupid-cheap & I had free shipping, but it came & is too big.  I mean, since when do I not wear an XL?!

This week’s plan is to simply keep my head on straight while traveling & being in the company of friends.  Keep up with my water, stay away from ordering five desserts…you know, the basics icon wink I could actually button my pants by the end of the week. Amazing!  I do have a walk scheduled during Blissdom.  If it’s anything like other conferences, the food will be awesome & there will be very little time to hit the gym, so it’s going to be more about watching portions & remembering my shapewear wouldn’t be so tight if I’d put down the pastry.  Any tips for portions & managing weight out of town?

The “Skinny” at Starbucks is the best — if you get it iced you don’t miss the sweetness of the regular syrup as much.. As for the tips for portions when eating out/out of town (it can be so tough, new food in new places is SO appealing!): I either decide before I start eating how much I’m going to eat and what I’m going to save/just leave OR if I’m craving something I know I’ll devour, I split it with someone so that I get to eat it but I control myself (somewhat) because I need to share. Just allow yourself that one splurge meal. If the rest of the week is good, it probably won’t have a big impact.

    Goodluck & have fun!

OMG! You must have been peeing like crazy!!!! Proud of you! Are you going to the 30th Anniversary thing or the Auction, or both? We’ll chat. Have a great week leading up to a Nashville weekend. (yee-haw!). Love you!

  3. I’ve done nothing but decide to do something. Tomorrow! Because tonight I have dinner with a client at one of the best restaurants in town. At 8pm! Not the best time for eating. But you’ve inspired me to at least add more water to my day – at least it’s something right?

  4. Courtney says:

I posted my link. A cinnamon sugar bagel almost brought me to my knees, but down four pounds! Thank you for the motivation to do this and congrats on your success. I love it when I don’t feel like the zipper of my pants should be receiving hazard pay. Great job!

Yesterday I met my nemesis face to face. My nemesis is my Mother’s kitchen. I was brought down to my knees by her cooking and this morning I am accepting it was my fault. I didn’t need the second helping and I sure could have scaled back the portion sizes. Overall I think the week went well and this week will be even better.

When I’m traveling I find the easiest thing to do is order the same breakfast everyday, stick to a light lunch and indulge a little at dinner. I schedule 2 snacks in (fruit/cheese or a Larabar) and then I don’t feel so deprived when I pass up on the muffins.

  6. Lauren says:

for out of town, don’t be afraid to make special requests! order dressings and sauces on the side and dip your fork into them instead of smothering your food. if you get veggies, request them steamed, no butter, and if your meat is bigger than the size of your fist, cut off the rest and put it to the side.

you can do it! i’ll be rooting for you. if you can say no to texas toast, you can do anything…seriously.

  7. Alison says:

I’ve also been drinking close to 100 oz. of water a day, and have cut back on my portions & snacking. My pants do not button any easier. It’s more than a little discouraging. Make me walk with you at Blissdom! I think the lack of exercise is what’s holding me back.

  8. Kali says:

I am DETERMINED to lost 10 lb by my oldest’s birthday… so far, down 4 and only 3 weeks to go. Blech. When I’m cooking dinner, I do squats and leg lifts and time with my digital cooking timer. I do squats for 10 seconds, 1 leg for 10 seconds, etc. Multi-tasking at it’s best! And when I am rocking my little guy, I throw some squats in there.

  9. Elizabeth says:

The best thing to do while traveling is to go to the store and buy healthy snacks to carry with you, that way when you’re passing the danish table, you resist that tempation, and reach in your bag and grab your “good for you” snack instead!!! Also is great at work!

I feel like starting with the small things can be incredibly motivating.

I’m back to blogging due to the fact that I have gained 20 pound since my wedding last year. So far I’ve lost 3 pounds just from cooking healthier meals and not dining out!

Have fun at your conference, love. I’m sure you will be a hit!

  11. I SO wish I was your roomate at Blissdom this weekend. But rather, I’ll be totally rocking a weekend FULL of Lego birthday parties for my Boy. It’s a win-win, but I’ll miss you.

    Stay strong!

  12. bonzer-christina says:

I eat lots of fruit and veggies that can travel well ( apples, oranges, clementines, bananas, baby carrots, grapes, pepper slices, cucumbers) and snack on them throughout the day.
I throw on some crumbled feta and balsamic vinegar and sometimes call it a salad at times.
I just pay attention to what I’m eating. I don’t deprive myself, but I dont overindulge either. Life is all about balance, and if you can’t stop at 2 chocolate chip cookies then you shouldn’t have them in your house at all, (for example, I dont mean YOU, I made cookies this weekend and limited myself to 2)
Weight watchers helps me stay on track by counting points, tracking what I eat, and keeping me in general check for having to account for why I only have 3 points left at dinner time, but see 16 hershey kisses at lunch on my tracker.

  13. I think I’m switching my weigh in days to Mondays because 1) I can join in the weight loss party on McFatty Mondays and 2) it will help keep my eating under control on the weekends.

Congrats on the pants and the too-big dress (although that’s annoying)!

  14. Miranda says:

So glad you had a good week! I’m about to chug my first bottle of water (how many ounces? No clue) and I’m going to try to cut out one of my morning coffees. (EEK!)

    Last week? No changes. Nothing.

Next week? I’m hoping to just be able to breathe in my pants.

  15. Angie says:

I’m Back!! I’m not paying myself this time, but I am jumping back into McFatty Monday. I’m trying to drink more water too and it would probably be a lot easier if it didn’t make me pee every 10 seconds. (especially since child rearing has all but ruined my lady parts and made my constantly full bladder a ticking time bomb)

  16. Katherine says:

Woot-woot! Isn’t it crazy how much dumping the soda and drinking more water does!? I’ve even found myself only drinking 1 cup of coffee lately too…insane.

Keep up the good work and have fun at Blissdom!

  17. Penny says:

Good for you! It’s great how those little changes can make a difference. Have fun!

  18. Jenny says:

Great job! It’s amazing how even the little changes make a huge difference. I can’t wait to join you all in McFatty Monday after my son is born in April.

  20. Kathy says:

    Great Job!

I’m having trouble with eating right, I can do the exercises no ploblem its everything else that is screwing me up!

  21. traveling for work has become my nemesis. there are rarely “good” options, and i’m usually so mentally exhausted by the day’s end, that a big, yummy dinner and dessert and just too tempting.

i wish i had good advice… but i don’t. if you come up with something brilliant, please do share.

it sounds like you’re doing a really good job of making small choices that lead to big things… which is what i’m trying to do for me too.

  22. Liz says:

Great job! It’s amazing what a difference water can make!

  23. Jami says:

Those little changes can make a huge difference! I think the water is a big help too! Keep it up!!!

  24. Apparently P says:

I got nothing on portions — it’s something I struggle with. They say to fill up 1/2 your plate with salad, but I just put food on top of it when I hit the buffet! Enjoy the conference!
