A merry, merry Christmas.

present 300x199 A merry, merry Christmas. The stash of presents under the tree is no longer a mystery.  New boots warm my feet.  A new skirt brushes my legs.  Nate relaxes in a new hooded sweatshirt while Harrison plays quietly with a Little People schoolbus from Santa.

To seem annoyingly perfect, it was a wonderful Christmas.

We spent time adoring Harrison.  We worshiped in candlelight on Christmas Eve with our boy sitting in my lap.  We baked cookies & drank wine & soaked each other in.  On Christmas morning, Harrison’s face lit up in absolute awe as he toddled towards the pile of gifts Santa left by the fireplace.  He carried around his new storybooks while Nate & I sat on the floor by the tree, cups of hot coffee in hand & doled out gifts to each other.  The completion to my nativity.  A new golf bag for him.  Running tights for me.  Basketball shorts for him.  Earmuffs to brace against the winter chill.  A new iPod alarm clock to replace his old one.

We piled into the car with duffel bags packed & drove the short trip to my parents house, where I flew into the arms of my brother.  “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” has never meant so much to me, now that the boys aren’t home every year.  Gifts were exchanged.  Monkey bread was devoured.  We giggled at Ralphie in the pink bunny costume, because it’s just not Christmas without the Red Ryder BB  Gun. Naps were had by all.  & in the evening at dinner time, snow began to fall.

North Carolina saw it’s first white Christmas in 60 years.  I saw my first white Christmas ever.

For the next forty-eight hours, we soaked each other in as a family.  Snowed fireplace 300x200 A merry, merry Christmas.in with 8 inches of the white stuff (don’t laugh, Yankees!), we pulled out board games & movies & books.  We watched HGTV until The Momma declared she couldn’t watch one more idiot buy a house.  We snacked on peanuts & M&Ms mixed together.  I curled up in my father’s recliner with my new copy of Pride & Prejudice & fell in love with Mr. Darcy all over again.

It is so rare that we all simply stop what we are doing & pause.  I am so thankful to the season & the snow for forcing us to take a deep breath.

Excellent. It was indeed a magical and wonderful Christmas and I agree the amazing snow fall was perfection on top. I hope your New Year brings just as much peace and contentment as Christmas did to you and your family!

Sounds like you had the most perfect Christmas! I’m so happy to read such a happy post from you. I have to admit that I’m feeling a little jealous because my hubby is gone to New Zealand for a month for an Air Force mission.
    Jealous in a good way…. :)

  3. Tena says:

I am so jealous of your white Christmas! We had a brown one in the Denver, CO area. Boo. Supposedly we’ll have a white New Years but I am not holding my breath. Glad you had a perfect day! It only gets better as your kid gets older. My almost 3yo has been parading around saying “Merry Crimmas hohoho” for a week now.

It was indeed a wonderful Christmas!! We watched Ralphie as well, and even opened a gift or two that was labeled ‘frageelie’ here at our house. Santa even slipped candy canes into bed w/ our little ones, stole the camera and took pictures. Just wait for that! Have a Happy New Year!

  5. Heather says:

Merry Christmas Blair! So glad you had a special day!

  6. Molly says:

Gosh, that sounds divine. This was seriously your first white Christmas. God bless you, dear.

You should have seen our Christmas last year. It was a doozie.

I’m glad you had the chance to unwind.

  7. Jennifer T says:

You had more snow in NC than we did in SW Michigan … and even more than what they had in the “snowbelt” of northern Michigan (Gaylord) and even in the UP from Cedarville to Munising. I am, oddly, jealous! We had two inches here. Less than six inches pretty much everywhere else.

I shouldn’t complain. Weatherman says we’ll get ours soon enough … *gulp*!

    Merry Christmas!!

  8. Erin says:

Merry Christmas, BA. I, too, was snowed in under over 10 inches of that dratted powdery white fluff (even today – as our neighborhood sees little sunlight and the road was a 6in thick sheet of ice). I’m hoping to get back to the old routine. Glad y’all had a wonderful White Christmas. I know I was happy to see a white one here in NC.

Merry Christmas. We got 2 feet here in NY on Sunday-Monday. I’m finding it a little less romantic however.

  10. I’m glad you had a wonderful Christmas, BA! I put up so many pictures on my blog of Alabama’s first white Christmas in like 30 or 40 years. It was the first one I’ve seen since I was 7. We had a good 8 or 9 inches too :D
