Thanks giving. Two words.

I love this time of year.

Scratch that.  I ADORE this time of year, like the kind of adore that is covered in unicorn dust & farting pick hearts & everything disgustingly sweet.   Thanksgiving seems to just kick off an entire month of awesome where spirits are high, pine rules the air, & every day is an excuse to bake something delicious.

I told myself that I wouldn’t fall to the cliche of listing everything I am thankful for.  How could I list it all?  & would it be awful to be equally thankful for Frye boots & the ability to provide for our family?  How could I possibly ever convey my thankfulness that my friend’s triplets are here, safe & sound?  Could I even begin to explain my thankfulness for life in general & The Man that makes it all possible, without being pegged as annoying & stereotypical?

pie Thanks giving. Two words.

But y’all…I am overwhelmingly, hearts-&-puppies thankful this year.

This year, I can fully enjoy it.  The year before last, I was in both emotional & physical pain that was almost too much to bear from the miscarriage.  Last year, I was sleep-deprived & wavering on the cusp of being okay & going off the deep end.

This year, I am finally healthy & happy & whole.

I am thankful that unlike last year, I didn’t have to make a Target run with a screaming, inconsolable infant.  This year, I shopped my supplies on Sunday with Harrison happily drinking juice in the cart.  I am thankful for that calm & those moments when Harrison would lean his head back with a giggle, waiting for me to blow a raspberry on his throat.

I am thankful for the man that helped me peel potatoes tonight over a glass of ginger ale & whisky.  I am thankful that he gets more handsome as every year passes.  (I get fatter, he gets hotter…so not fair.)

I am thankful for my father, who sent my friend the sweetest email ever.  Because he loves me, he loves the girls that are a piece of my heart.  I am thankful to have his example to follow as someone who both provides for & involves a family.

I am thankful for everyone that will gather in the home I grew up in tomorrow.  I am thankful for the laughter we will share.  For the secrets my brother & I will whisper when The Momma has her back turned.  I am thankful that for the 10th year in a row, we will pop in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation during dessert, even though we can all recite it by heart.

I am thankful for my friends.  For their love & support.  I am thankful for the lattes Lala brings me on rough days, or the phone dates Kacia & I schedule to talk about how we will conquer the world with day planners.

& I am thankful for you.  Even if you’re picking your nose or belching while you read this, I am eternally thankful that you are here to roll your eyes at me or laugh with me or give me gentle (sometimes not) kicks in the ass when I need them.  Even if you hate me & wish I’d burn in the smoldering hells of the internet?  I’m thankful that you’re here.  Kind of.

Mostly, I am thankful to be alive.  To be happy.  To be whole.

All my love, wishes, & unicorn farts to you as you stuff your face with potatoes & turkey tomorrow.

p.s.  I got roped into running a 5K Turkey Trot tomorrow with my pal Lauren.  I’m only on Week 4 of C25K!  This is totally going to kick my ass.  I’ll  have Nate video tape the resuscitation that will happen at the finish line.

::sniff:: I’m thankful for you too. I’m thankful for every second we spend laughing and crying and sending sarcastic emails to each other when we should be doing more productive things. I’m thankful for that night we met in Applebees and life would never be the same.

Good luck with your Turkey Trot! You’ll be just fine, I know it. :) I’m doing a Turkey Trot too, and I’m unbelievably jealous of the fact that, by virtue of time zones, you’ll be done with yours three whole hours before I’m done with mine. *sigh*

  27. Steph says:

Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!

I usually only read blogs on my reader and so usually have no idea when someone changes their blog look. Happened to come straight to your site today and I really like the change, very nice. Funny story though, your tiny little happy face in the top right corner of the screen totally had me thinking the kids had taken a marker to my laptop screen. Was ready to go ream them out and then noticed that when I scrolled down the happy face disappeared into the top of the computer! Way to freak me out though :)

  28. Shahny says:

Happy Thanksgiving Blair! I love your posts

ps. I love that profile pic of you, Nate, & Harrison

Happy, happy Thanksgiving Blair and family! I hope you survived the 5K :)

  30. Erica says:

Happy Thanksgiving! And, I don’t think you ever have to worry about something as traditional and classic as Thanksgiving being a cliche. If someone wants to judge you for this, that’s their problem! :)

  31. Carolyn says:

Happy Thanksgiving!! We watched Christmas Vacation too and like the 100 zillion times before, I laughed at all the funny parts… especially when eddie pours the toilet down the sewer. LOL.

    Love the new family photo!

  32. Brooke says:

It’s not cliche at all to list the things you are thankful for, it’s more like it’s tear inducing. I love your honesty and your sense of humor, and I’m so glad you’re willing to share it all with us. And I’m sure you did super in the turkey trot! You’ve got me beat, I haven’t done one of those since I was 8!

  33. Genevieve says:

Oh my gosh, I want to hear about the 5k!!! Good for you lady!

  34. Cassie says:

Beautiful post! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

And on a gross note-I totally burped as I read the word belching. I guess I drank my water a tad too quickly.

  35. Kristy says:

We watch Christmas Vacation every year on Christmas Eve! Such a Funny and Great tradition :)

  36. SO happy you are happy! Also: Christmas Vacation is one of my favorite movies. CLASSIC.
