DSC 0106 2 1024x685 I fear I will disappoint today.

oh heavens, you can see his boxers.

See that sloth up there, cleverly disguised as my husband?  It represents exactly what I did this week.

Nothing.  Zero. Zilch.  Jack shit.

Except sit in my warm house with Edy’s Peppermint ice cream.

BUT. But. I am prepared this week.  I have jotted down all of your suggestions from last week & my goal over the next few weeks is to find out what works.  This week, I’m going to attempt to run during my lunch break on Tuesday, then run Thursday morning, then Saturday.  Whore’s bath by Pamper’s wipes to follow after my run on Tuesday.  & then  hoping the boss doesn’t mind a ponytail too badly.

Y’all were AWESOME last week.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.  Diana?  You have made my world with Runner’s World.  I am all over it like a fat kid on a cupcake.  (oh…wait.  that’s what got me into this mess in the first place.) This week, my goal is to get some thermal tights & reflective gear so I can run comfortably at night again.  It really worked best for my schedule & although I plan on trying a few trials at gyms, I think that will be more of a hassle.

Here’s the thing – I could tell that I didn’t run this week.  & I didn’t like it.  I felt like I had a shorter fuse, more frustration, & there were times at work where I actually threw up my hands in the air & yelled, “I CAN FEEL MY BLOOD PRESSURE RISING.”  Really professional, right?  If I had been smart, I would have taken out my frustration on the pavement.  Like I know how to do, which is what makes me want to smack myself in the forehead.  I’m my own worst enemy sometimes. (aren’t we all?)

I will be better this week.  & just in time to burn off the turkey & sweet potatoes!

What are your goals this week?  What is your plan to combat Thanksgiving?

I am just getting on the fitness bandwagon, but I used to be very good at it. Moderation is my friend and working out is my whole world right now.

I think your plan looks awesome! I wish I was a runner, I am thinking of starting again. Also If you do check out a gym please post some up. since moving to NC I have yet to find anything!!

  2. justine says:

girl, you are awesome. i love to exercise, and rocked it throughout my pregnancy. then, in march of last year, i bought a gym membership, because “working out at home is too hard with a newborn”. and she screams bloody murder every time i leave her in the child care. of course, this didn’t start until AFTER i bought the membership. i made it about 3 weeks in, and just couldn’t deal with her wailing from the other room (i could hear her all the way in the cardio room). more painful than the number on the scale? the $30 every month that goes wasted because my child can’t stand being in that little sweat box with the other screaming toddlers. =(

i love reading about your running and it totally inspires me to get out and just do it. even though i hate running more than i hate the spare tire around my waist. =/

Forget about last week. It’s over and doesn’t mean anything.

    Good luck this week!

(if you happen to venture onto the RW forums, steer clear of L&O :) )

I’ve been going to a Weight Loss Support group and I am meeting the leader this morning so we cab workout together. This is a huge step for me.

  5. Blair–zomg, I found the f-in’ FOUNTAIN OF ENERGY!!!

GNC vitamin packs for women. Purple box. Says something about “active”. $49

I was up at midnight AND 3 am with the baby, then got up at 6:30…and here I sit at work rocking hooker boots, smokey eyes, and envy-inspiring hair. And tonight? I’m kicking my elliptical’s ASS.

Also? I had sex 3 times in one weekend. It’s like BIZARRO WORLD up in here.

  6. bonzer-christina says:

maybe I’m captain obvious, but is there no GYM by you? You know, the indoor facility with workout gear that provides a safe, temperature controlled , well lit place for all your exercise needs?
I missed last weeks post, so I apologize if this answer was already mentioned.

  7. Krista says:

My plan to battle Thanksgiving? NONE, just enjoy every morsel :) Unhealthy relationship with food? Eh, whatever, I love turkey and mashed potatoes.. so sue me :) I’ll deal with the consequences after and take a few walks!
Here’s my McFatty post. I’ve been absent the last couple weeks due to a new job and busy schedule, and now I’m on the “Please Lord, don’t let me gain too much weight” plan. Good enough for me.

oh, Combat thanksgiving… well here is my plan. i’m going to eat very healthy all week. I’m not going to splurge on any decadent coffee drinks, i’m not going to have dessert…
I’m going to try and get out and walk for 30 minutes tonight and 30 on wednesday.
I’m cooking on Thursday and usually if I cook I have no appetite. But I can’t do some major damage to a pie, and probably will.
So Friday I’ll be up at 3 am harassing black friday shoppers and joining the crowds at target. I figure dashing through the stores will help me burn?

  9. Whatevs. We’re all going to go in for a group blood pressure check one of these days. Running, yoga & xanax can only do so much.

  10. dena says:

All I can say is YES to Edy’s Peppermint ice cream. I housed an entire container in under a week.

  11. Ali says:

This is so hard because I know you have such little time with Harrison at night & you don’t wanna give that up – you shouldn’t. I honestly think that if you can find a gym close by, starting with just 30 minutes there 4 or 5 nights a week will make a huge difference. & I’m sure you probably know this, but the more you work out, the more you will want to work out. I wish you could make it to group-fitness classes. They really are the absolute best thing for beginners. But they would cut into some serious Harry time I’m sure. HEEEYYYY!!!! check out youtube & look up the ten minute kick boxing workouts. They are great. & then “the best at home workout” with two african american people is another really great one.

  12. Sara says:

First – I freaking love Edy’s Peppermint… with some chocolate syrup… holy crap that’s good.

Working a 3 day week (yay!) and heading to the in-laws on Thursday. I have no plan to comabt Thanksgiving – besides lots of Cabernet? I am trying to get motivated and find time to start a runnning program. I fear that I never will… way to be positive, right?
    I LOVE your blog! FANTASTIC!

  13. Juls says:

    So, Blair…

I was recommended your site because you’re doing the Couch to 5K too and have a total non-runner approach to it.

I then became addicted to your blog! You make me laugh out loud, and I enjoy finding out that your running journey like mine has resulted in you secretly liking it, although still feeling crazily overwhelmed by it!

Keep up the running, I’ve been doing it for erm 5 weeks and Week 3 Day 3 is still kicking my butt! :)

In other news, your son is gorgeous and I totally digged your McRib experience :)

  14. Glad to hear you’ve caught the bug!!

omg Runner’s World is fantastic. I get so excited every time my new issue shows up on the doorstep! and lunch running… well this summer I figured out that it’s the only way I can get ANY running in mid-week. Only we have a shower at work… wipes will be interesting… :) I now have a following at work (there are now four of us. I’m Forrest Gump.)

Very Occasionally I let out some running thoughts on my other blog Running Mom’s Blues http://www.runningmomsblues.wordpress.com. check it out if you are like me and sometimes thrive on other people’s motivation and experiences. It’s a bit neglected though so don’t expect much. :)

  15. Brenda says:

So in response to the “whore’s bath” I highly recommend the Pond’s wipes instead of baby wipes. Way better! Totally love them. And if your hair turns into a sweaty mess like mine does, I recommend those oil absorbing wipes intended for your face. They conviently also work well at your scalp line.

All this from a fellow lunch time runner!

  16. Sarah says:

My goals this week? Actually stick to week 1 of Hal Higdon’s half marathon plan.
I’m not quite sure what I’m going to do about Thanksgiving. I know there will be plenty of healthy eats at my mom’s house on Friday, but on Thursday? I’m not quite sure if I should bring something or just give in to all the Paula Deen-style food my mother-in-law is going to serve up on Thursday.

  17. AJ says:

My Thanksgiving plan: eat, nap, eat more, maybe run, watch some football, and probably eat again for good measure.

Oh, and then I’m going to shop in hopes that fighting the crowds will burn some calories. Maybe I’ll find some new running shoes… and some motivation!

  18. Heidi-D says:

It’s great how your body starts to crave the activity that it once hated. How you can FEEL the difference when you don’t exercise… I love that hitting that stride!

It’s time to find that stride again! I have been lazy long enough!

    It’s a new day – and I am pumped!!!

  19. Liz says:

I miss the feeling of craving exercise! I just need to find the motivation to start again.

  20. Sharone says:

Ha, thanks to my inspiring example (way to go, me), a few months ago my mother-in-law decided to train for a 5k and convinced me to sign up for a Turkey Trot with her on Thanksgiving morning. I’ve been extraordinarily lazy about running this fall and I kept hoping she would forget about it or get tired of running, but that’s not really the way running works. So now I’m staring down 3.1 miles on Thursday morning and wondering if I can make up for at least a month of sickness and general inactivity in three days…

So the moral of the story is be careful who you tell about how great running is. You might end up out in 40 degree weather at 6 am on Thanksgiving morning, hoping you don’t vomit or fall into the ocean and get eaten by sharks.

Talk about needing a Thanksgiving survival plan.

  21. Lacey says:

I’m with you as far as last week goes… and the thought of Thanksgiving isn’t giving me a whole lot of hope for next week.

I did pay attention to what I was eating last week and still dropped some lbs!

I have kind of done an eating overhaul these past few weeks with the help of a couple of books that I talk about in my post, they have really helped.

    Enjoy your turkey day!

  22. Anna says:

Don’t feel bad, Blair. I didn’t do much this week either. I did turbo kickboxing at the gym on Monday, and ran 1.5 miles on Tuesday. That was it. I have to get back into the swing of things!

To combat Thanksgiving, I am running a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning with a friend. It’s 4 miles. I’ve ran 5 miles before so I know I can do it, but I hope I don’t get too tired. After that I plan on eating lots of twice baked potatoes & green bean casserole, and drinking vats of wine. So really I’m not combating Thanksgiving, I’m just using the run as an excuse to take in an additional 1000 calories. (Even though the run will only burn like 400.)

I’m running tonight! Hope this week goes better for both of us.

  23. *jill hangs head in shame, all chewing comes to a halt & she puts dooowwwn the hostess ding-dong* ….”gawwwh!”

  24. Mrs. Joe says:

My goal is to try to not overdo it. Hopefully, I will not feel like a bloated beached whale on Thursday evening, but if I do, I will just burn extra calories shopping on Friday! Also, I will try not to fall off the McFatty Bandwangon again. those are my goals. Baby steps. http://thsoapscumavenger.blogspot.com/2010/11/mcfatty-monday.html

  25. Melissa says:

I am so late on suggestions and haven’t read the comments, but has anyone suggested getting a treadmill? I don’t know if you have them, but we have a few resale sporting goods stores and you can usually get a great deal on an almost-new piece of equipment.

  26. Susan says:

Totally NOT the reason behind your post, but I’ll ask. What swing set did you get? Princess Buttercup here will probably get one for her 1st birthday in February, and I’m researching. Harrison seems to love the one you got, based on your pics.

  27. Kim says:

“whore’s bath” ahaahahahah!! There is ALWAYS a gem like this in your posts!! I’ve always called it a PTA bath: pits, tits and ass, but Whore’s bath is just way awesome!!

  28. Penny says:

Sounds like you have a great plan for the week! I, sadly, do not, except to not eat pie. I think I can handle it, this will be the first time since changing my eating habits that I will be presented with a buffet of unhealthy food. It’s like a challenge, right???

  29. MyBabyBeluga says:

my goal is to remind myself about portions. Smaller portions. I was doing so well post baby, then slipped off the wagon and started buying snacks, damn you pringles! Now I’m back on track with portions.

  30. Samantha says:

    whores bath…I LOVE IT!

  31. Susan says:

OK, for some reason I can’t reply to your post above. But THANKS for the swing set link. Really. It’s what I’m looking for. I wanted something with a slide and 2 slots for swings, that was tall enough an adult could push it. I had been looking at a separate step2 style slide, this gets both the swing and slide needs in one piece.

Anytime!! Rumor has it that if you can find a 20% off Toys R Us coupon, it will work (but a BRU coupon won’t).

  32. bonzer-christina says:

the playyards and swingsets are excluded from the toys r us coupons.

  33. I love you like whoa.

  34. Diana says:

Hey, Blair! Glad you’re enjoying Runner’s World. It’s a great resource, especially for new runners. Hope you’re having fun running this week. I’m trying to get back into my routine after about two months of slothfully lying on my couch with only an occasional run. Picking a cold time of year to get back in shape kind of sucks. I totally understand the desire to stay inside and have delicious ice cream. Here’s to a good week of consistent running!
