My kid is unbelievably cute. & makes getting ready for work less like getting dental work without novocaine.

Our morning routine is always the same.  I thrive on routine & with only 45 minutes to get out the door between waking up & back out of the driveway, Nate & I have to make the most of every second.  Since I take longer to get ready (thank you, hair & makeup & business suits), Nate does 90% of Harrison’s morning routine.

It used to be that my favorite part of the morning was when Harrison came out of his room.  While I curled my hair in our bathroom, I would listen intently for the tell-tale sign of the nursery door opening.  I poked my head outside the bathroom just in time to see Harrison toddling from his room into ours.  The site of those stumbling morning Franken-toddles would simply melt my heart every. single. time.

yes, that is a Swiffer in our bedroom.  don’t ask.

Last week, we dropped Harrison’s morning bottle which leaves him very hungry while we’re getting ready.  So Nate sits down on the floor with Harry & shares his morning bowl of oatmeal.

This has officially stolen the show as my favorite moment of every day.

Harrison’s eyes widen the moment he sees that bowl & he immediately starts signing “more” by tapping two hands together.  Except he does it like “time-out” where one had goes perpendicular into the other & it’s just so damn cute.

tap, tap, tap.  MORE!

He looks like a little Oliver Twist, begging for a spot of porridge.  Please, Father!  I am hungry!  I am very small!**

**please use your best fake English accent while saying this.

So cute! I can always count on you to make me smile or cry…it’s why I love your blog!!!

  2. haha…yep, Cute~Cute~Cute!

  3. Kate says:

Whoever had the idea of teaching babies sign language was a genius! Not only is it super cute but it’s sooo useful. I couldn’t even tell you how many tantrums we’ve avoided.

  4. Kimberly says:

    Hee hee…
My son gets up just as I am getting out of the shower. His eyes aren’t even open yet when he pokes his head in the bathroom. He sits with me on my lap while I put my makeup on in the mirror (I sit on the floor because I don’t have to bend over a sink…my backs jacked up). It’s my favourite time of morning.

  5. Sharone says:

Ha, you didn’t have to tell me to use a fake English accent – I was already there.

Also, your son is a dollbaby and I would like to eat him up. In the nicest, least creepy way possible.

  6. Lacey says:

Wow, that last picture of Nate looking at Harrison made me tear up. So precious!

  7. Erica says:

So sweet! Question: When did you start letting him eat “adult” oatmeal? I still feed my 10 month old the baby cereal type, but am wondering when it’s okay to switch. Love your blog, BTW.

    • heirtoblair says:

I think he made the switch right at about a year! I was worried he would hate the texture, but I think he LOVES the extra flavors. We do instant since we’re crunched for time, but if you get the Weight Watchers version, there’s more protein & I think only 1g of sugar (I think the regular has 7g of sugar?).

  8. Shannon says:

Dude, we have a Swiffer in our bedroom too. Its what all the cool kids are doing, clearly.

  9. Ali says:

Blair, your kid is cute … but your husband is hot! lucky, lucky woman you are. But you are hot too. & smart & funny so it’s not like it’s really surprising to me or anything .. okay, thats all.

  10. Joanna says:

Oh hi, get out of my head :) . I wrote about mornings too, only sans pictures. boo.

  11. Vee says:

How on earth do you do it in 45 minutes?!? Do you shower at night? Hahaha, seconding Ali’s comment too – you have two very good-looking boys in your life! =)

    • heirtoblair says:

      ha, thank you!

I do shower at night! & I sleep on my hair wet so unfortunately, it looks like two rats molested each other in my hair by the morning. But it’s nothing hot rollers or a straightener can’t fix.

  12. Samantha says:

Awesome pictures. I love the concentration on Nate’s face in the first picture.

  13. JDub says:

Love it!! My little guy signs for more too – all the time…especially out in public around other people eating when it’s incredibly inappropriate :)

Anyway, good idea about the oatmeal, we give ours a sippy of milk and he lays on the floor with his head elevated on a pillow to drink it like a bottle while we get ready since he gets breakfast at school. That’s as creative as I got once the bottles were gone.

  14. MarMat says:

and how can you get ready when having this show??
Ohhh I been hesitant to do the signing thing. Sometimes I wonder if it’s too much for mi girl. I’ve heard a lot of opinions and I trust yours ;)

Could you share more about it? puh-puh-lease

  15. Kim says:

I taught my kids sign, too. Nothing cuter. Makes you proud, doesn’t it?

  16. Sarah says:

This post turned me into a puddle.
    Your kid is SO CUTE!
Of course, you didn’t need me to tell you that.

  17. Mama Durso says:

I can’t handle the cuteness! A picture with both your husband and your son would be difficult to handle, the the sharing of the oatmeal? Way too cute. You’re blessed with a beautiful (and freaking adorable) family, Blair!

  18. Law Momma says:

    So stinking cute. Seriously.

  19. Kelli says:

So cute… that’s how my daughter signs “more” too. Repeatedly : )

  20. That kid is damn cute.

  21. Nani says:

omg shoot me through the heart already. He is such a cutie all that blonde hair and the pic with your hubs is so sweet!

  22. Stefanie says:

I love how Nate and Harrison have matching bed head. Very cute! 45 min? Holy crap. That definately a crunch.

  23. Mama Fisch says:

Are the “franken-toddles” not the best. I smile every morning as Brady gets his “sea legs” and steadies himself on the glider. We are getting rid of the morning bottle next week and I am terrified. Do you still give one at night?

    • heirtoblair says:

Yep, we still do the bed bottle. Selfishly, I’m just not ready to give up that last snuggle. & he’s just not drinking enough from a sippy yet. I figure in a month or two, he (& I) will be ready to drop it.

  24. Miranda says:

Joshua also does the Time-Out More. I love it. I love that he’s not the only behbeh that does that.

And so much of your morning is like mine. Dan does 97% of everything including fix coffee that he doesn’t drink and make the sippies. My favorite part is hearing him and Joshua on the monitor while he’s getting Joshua dressed. (Though Joshua is usually shouting PEE PEE PEE PEE over and over and over because he’s found his “friend.” ::sigh::)

    I hate to love mornings.

  25. Mama Fisch says:

    That makes me feel better…
Brady does not love whole milk so it is a battle during the day to get him to drink anything. We give him a warm bottle of whole milk at night and he will drink it. Plus, we love the cuddle time with him at night. I am hoping by his 15 month check up we are done with bottles even if we aren’t ready I think my dishwasher is.

    • heirtoblair says:

A-freakin-men. I cannot wait to reclaim that countertop real estate that is overrun with bottles & drying rack.

  26. ElleJay says:

45 minutes?! Daaaamn, I need a good 2 hours (although my husband doesn’t help- I do it all myself).

& we also have a swiffer in our bedroom. Why? B likes to drop his binks up over the head board and it’s the only way I can reach to get them out!

  27. PartyMom says:

What a cute morning routine! Husband has morning responsibilities because I’m usually out the door between 6 and 6:30, so it’s rare for me to see either of them awake before I leave.

T also does the ‘time-out’ tap for more. It’s freaking hilarious!

  28. Beth Anne says:

dying, DYING, at his cuteness!! I haven’t tried big people oatmeal on Jackson, but I bet he’d love it.

    • heirtoblair says:

      You should try it!!

p.s. it kills me EVERY TIME you comment because I’m all, “HOLY CRAP, my name!!” Not too often that you meet a Beth Anne :)

  29. Jenn says:

He is totally cute! And he brightened my day…er, evening. So impressed that you can do all that in 45 minutes. It takes me 45 minutes just to poke one foot out from under the warm blankets.

  30. kristen says:

Hardcore agree with whoever it was up there that said your husband is hot. And of course the sharing of the oats and the begging for more from Harrison is heart-meltingly adorable.

  31. MyBabyBeluga says:

What a great way to start the mornings! My morning starts with my little girl waking up and “talking”… then I go in her room and slowly turn the light on and say “good morning snoozer” she always has the BIGGEST smile on her face. I LOVE it!!

  32. Gina says:

    That is so stinkin’ cute!!

  33. That’s adorable! We are already showing Little Roo the “more” sign. He just smiles and laughs at this point but I can’t wait to see him do that!

  34. Marian says:

We taught my daughter some signs but “more” is the only one that stuck. She still signs it even though she says “more” as she’s doing it. She also bangs her hands together faster and harder the more she wants whatever, like she’s shouting…so cute.
Also – how unfair that husbands wake up with adorable bedhead looking just as hot as usual. Whereas I wake up looking at best 5 years older and like I slept in a wind tunnel!

  35. Rachel Morgan says:

Ahhhh I love mornings! I’m such a morning person :) From picking out clothes, smelling the coffee drip (it smells the best in the AM), and baby smiles/cuddles, I can’t help but be in a good mood.

  36. So precious :)

  37. Katie says:

Eddie does the SAME more sign…but it looks like Time Out too!!! Or sometimes? he keeps one hand closed in a fist and inserts his other finger into said fist. Um…not appropriate, little dude.

  38. Becky says:

Hey Blair, just wondering what age did you introduce sign language? We want to do it with our son who is 6m. And would you just do the ‘more’ sign before giving him another bite? I’m just trying to figure out the best way to help him understand what the signs mean.
    Thanks!

  39. Amanda says:

Oh my goodness my baby at 13 months signs more as a time out too!!! he as also made his own version of please and thank you… I just thought he was creative… he has made up another sign that we can’t figure out, hopefully we will figure it out soon.

  40. Lisa says:

Conor signs “more” like that, too, but with just one finger. That’s how they taught it at daycare because the ASL “more” is too similar to their sign for “wait” (which isn’t the ASL sign for “wait” for whatever reason.) The time out move is actually the ASL sign for “again”.

Thank God for helpful husbands! I can bang out a shower, hair and clothes in 30 min but only because the hubs does diaper, clothes and breakfast.

  41. I haven’t even read this yet…I just clicked over…saw the picture of the swiffer in your bedroom…and had to comment to tell you that I have had a swiffer laying in my bedroom since Monday. It’s dirty. And isn’t even leaning up against a wall anymore…it just fell to the floor. But the closets aren’t cleaned out yet…so I refuse to move it.

Now to read. Happy Sunday Morning :)

    • heirtoblair says:

dude, that was ours. I used it last Sunday in the bathroom, then it just fell over & I stepped over it for an entire week. I finally put it away yesterday. Housewife of the Year, what?!

  42. shawna davis says:

Did you notice that Nate looks just like David Boreanaz (Angel, Bones…) in those pictures? I was like, holy eff! He looks familiar! Then I figured it out. :D

  43. Kate says:

Baby signing is so amazing! I’ve been doing it for a few weeks and he is already picking up on all of it!

Your baby is so cute & your husband is hot! You’re gorgeous–so basically a beautiful family all around!

Hope y’all had a great Thanksgiving!
