I feel like my childhood died yesterday.
I mean, what does Kate Middleton have that I don’t have? Other than really shiny hair & the ability to wear feathers in hats?
I was supposed to marry Prince William.
Sure, he has that rabbit thing going on with his teeth & unfortunately, Charles’ hair line. I think Nate would understand if I called our marriage a simple “technicality.”
By the time most girls were 16, I think they were probably double-click their mouse or sneaking in boyfriends whenever their parents left them home alone. Me? I would pull out this gorgeous cream & gold brocade ballgown that I owned thanks to a winter formal. I’d curl & pin up my hair & then I’d slip on the tiara my daddy bought me when I realized I would never, ever be nominated for Homecoming Court. I’d sneak into The Momma’s jewelry box & pull out her diamond rings. & then I’d run back to my room, fling open my closet door, & practice my curtsy to the Queen in front of a full-length mirror.
STOP LAUGHING.
Also? The Momma had this gorgeous navy wool cape coat with a fur collar & sometimes I would slip that on. You know, in case I was a winter bride.

You know… Grace Kelly married a prince and became a princess. It could happen. I keep telling my girls that anything is possible… they may even end up a real live princess someday. Chances: slim to none, but stranger things are known to happen.

Girl, you ain’t lying. I always dreamed of my own royal wedding to Wills and how we’d have these blonde british babies running around the grounds of Buckingham. Fast forward 12 years…no fountains, no royal heirs, but I have created our own little castle and have found quite the prince. Yeah, life aint too bad. But it was sooo nice to dream about marrying the Prince of England while rocking out to my Ace of Base CD…..

I was all giddy when it was on the news last night and my husband just didn’t get it…. Prince William and I were born on the same day and I feel we really have a connection… he just doesn’t know about that yet.
Anyway, I love the ring, would love it for myself, but who am I kidding. I’d have to line up for that shit and there is no promise that I’d even get a chance, dammit!

oh my heavens, I’m laughing so much only because I can relate. I have a tiara from my wedding that I put on if I’m having a rough day. My husband came home to me one day wearing it while vaccuming hahaha. He laughed and said, well I should be surprised….

You have also inspired me.. so okay time to admit it, I used to practice saying ‘His Royal Highness Prince William Arthur Philip Louis of Wales’ over and over again so that if the time came I wouldn’t mess up saying his name during our wedding vows, like princess Diana did during her ceremony with Charles.
Yeah. Seriously. I was concerned about the wedding vows, not so much about how I would meet him and convince him to marry me, apparently that was going to be a piece of cake. Reciting the wedding vows in front of millions, that was going to be the tricky part.
I love Kate in every way though, seriously, girl is pretty and sweet and THE ENVY OF all of us. I really cannot wait to see the dress…so I can pretend I’m the one wearing it!

Hah! This is hilarious. You are not alone. My mom held aspirations that I, too, would marry Prince William. She had me write him a letter when I was 8 and Princess Diana’s lady-in-waiting actually wrote me back. My mom still has that letter somewhere.
She also wanted me to study abroad at St. Andrew’s in Scotland. We even went and toured the campus in 2002. No Prince William sighting, though. I didn’t end up studying abroad because tuition was going to be outrageously expensive ($30K?!) for one semester. Yikes.
I got a text from her yesterday that said “you missed your chance.” She’s crazy.
Besides, I think Harry is cuter. And then there’s that tiny detail that I’m already married to someone else…
My boyfriend brought this up last night, and I said, “Did you hear that? That was the sound of MILLIONS of women’s hearts breaking and dreams of princess-dom dying.”

While other girls had NKOTB posters in their room, I had Wills hanging on my wall. My mom even called me the morning of the announcement to check on my heart, and to inform me that as long as I’m still kicking, there’s a chance I can get him. When I got my first computer his face was my screen saver slide show. I’m glad I’m not the only person who was broken up over the news.
