Monday: I suit up. I’m ready to go. My iPod charged the entire day. I stretch at the top of our driveway, Tuck dancing restlessly at the end of the leash. I scroll through my apps &…what the eff. WHERE’S MY C25K APP?! MOTHER EFFER. No way in hell I am going back in. If I go back in, I won’t run. I know me.
So I walk/jog on my own for a good 20 minutes. Also? I almost died because I forgot to take my inhaler.
Tuesday: Same thing. I can’t figure out this mother-effing app. But I ran a solid 3:23, which just so happens to be the length of “Party in the USA.” Don’t judge me. It’s easier to get going today, even if it is just a trick of my imagination.
Wednesday: HALLELUJAH, I finally figure out my iTouch. & I actually complete Day 1 of Week 1. It’s tough. But I did it. & dare I say it? I actually looked forward to lacing up my sneakers & getting out.
Thursday: Tuck is sick & Twitter agrees that I should take the night off (I’m supposed to have some nights off anyway, right?) rather than jogging without her at night or sacrificing quality time with Harrison.
Friday: Tuck’s even more sick. I stay home again.
Saturday: I have to go into work, clean my house, I’m still keeping a watchful eye on Tuck, etc. I know I should make time for a run since I’m home during daylight hours, but I fall back into my old ways & say, “I’ll do it tomorrow.”
Sunday: I think I caught what Tuck has. I also think it’s ironic punishment for putting off my Saturday run.
So there you have it. I won’t say I failed, because I put in effort. I ran three times last week, which is more than I’ve done in the past. & with everything, sometimes life gets in the way. & that means that my pup’s health & my safety take priority.
So I’m going to do Week 1 again, just to make sure I have a solid foundation before I keep progressing. Kind of like math – my parents had a rule that you absolutely could not progress to the next math class unless you made a B- or greater. Even if it held you back. I had to repeat Algebra, but ended up slam-dunking it the second time around. That’s totally one of those things that you loathe your parents while it’s happening, & thank them when you grow up.
But y’all…I am LOVING running so far. I love being out in the cool night air. I like feeling my feet pound the pavement to the beat of the music. Everything I feel stressed about during the day seems to have melted away by the time I make it back to my front door. All the aggression I felt is left on the sidewalk. & I am ready to come into my house with a clearer mind to write & relax with my husband.
Seriously, if you’re not running…start now.
(This coming from a girl that has to repeat Week 1.)
What is your favorite part of exercising? Do you get all ga-ga all over the endorphins?

After some time off, I’m back. With REAL numbers this time! ::eek::
It sounds like your getting your groove back too.
Great job on running last week!
http://laceyslaughablelife.wordpress.com/2010/10/25/im-ready/
I like working out. I LOATHE running. And if it’s dark out? Forget it. So I am very very impressed you managed to get out and do ANY running, especially after a full day of work.
DON’T FORGET YOUR INHALER.
Way to go! 3 days in a row is tough! I did an extra day of Week 1 because I wasn’t sure if I could move up yet, but by the end of the 4th week 1 run, I could tell I was ready {surprisingly}.
For me, when I start out running it feels pretty good, but by the 6th or 7th interval I start getting pretty tired. I’m so exciting to be “running” and completing each interval.
Keep up the good work Blair!
My favorite part of exercising is sweating. Weird? I think so but seriously, I feel so much better if I sweat. I feel like I accomplished something. I run to the gym every night, do super sets to speed things up and run home. By the time I get home, I am out of breath, sweating, and ready to tackle just about anything. Plus, exercising gives me time to sing at the top of my lungs (in my head of course),
Hey, even if you didn’t do the C25K program all of those days, you ran THREE times. That’s quite an accomplishment! I’m impressed, lady! Remember how good you felt each time and use that to keep up the motivation!
I said I was going to join the program, and I really am…. no, seriously. But last week I got hit with a very bad cold, and so I didn’t actually run, but I DID walk 3 times, which was good enough for me. But this week I will RUN!
Here’s my post for this week, I’ve set a goal!
http://outofrealworld.wordpress.com/2010/10/25/feeling-good-looking-good-why-not-throw-in-a-goal/
I love to exercise, play sports, and generelly be active – but I hate running. Mainly because it hurts my knees. How do your joints feel after running on the pavement? You and I have a similar build (you might be a bit taller than me, but similar weight) and I haven’t given it a good try for about 30lbs… Maybe I should give it one more try?
I, too, LOVE running. That is once I have gotten past the first week and don’t feel like I will die by the time I make it back to our street.
I started last year around this time and I love the time to myself, in my head. I think of my dad without getting upset, plan our future life with baby without feeling crazy, and sometimes I don’t think at all. It’s such a beautiful thing. I need to start again. Like now.
Thank you for the inspiration
Three days a week is PLENTY, that’s great BA! PS – those birthday pictures are adorable. He is getting SO big.
Good for you!! I had to start week 2 again because week 3 was killing me.
I actually agree. Running is sort of cathartic. Just you and the road. Makes me think of that fake commercial that Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt pitched in What Women Want. Because it’s exactly like that.
You’re already doing more than you were with the intent to keep going. Who care’s if ya gotta repeat week 1. I hate exercising, running ect. Love Zumba though. Gotta do what you love or you won’t stick to it. Good for you!
running is the best! I had a feeling you’d start loving it. Just wait, it’s so addicting. You’ll be running half marathons before you know it.
3x is great! I think my ap on my iPhone actually says that what you should start out with. I myself only did it once this week.
I don’t know if it’s because I’m really out of shape or what, but I never feel great after I exercise. I feel crappy and exhausted. I really wish I could feel great after a good run, so I’m hoping maybe after I do it for a few weeks I’ll start feeling those endorphins…
I’m doing the C25K program too (on week 7)! I’ve never been able to run in my life but can now run 2 1/4 miles straight- thanks to the program! I love how strong and tone my legs feel afterwards! Good work! And good idea to repeat a week if you need to.
Okay okay, I feel like that “get out and run” comment is directed at me. This week is Blissdom Canada week so how about I start next week? I will need to run off all the wine I’m consuming Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Maybe even some Mimosas on Saturday morning…
Great job! I ran my 5k this weekend and it feels awesome. I almost cried when I finished b/c I was so proud of myself. Ha, most people get emotional over a marathon but I HATE running (actually I’m beginning to like it more and more now that I ca actually do it without dying)!
good work! my favorite part of exercising is the ice cream i get to eat guilt-free afterwards. hehehe….. !!
Party in the USA is on my running playlist. In fact :: opens iTunes:: I’m listening to it right now.
Ha!
I’ve got to say, your attitude about your running is one that will carry you on to success. In other words, you’ve got the right attitude. Go Blair!
::& the britney song was on… & the britney song was on….”
I mostly use the elliptical at the gym and do Zumba. I love getting a good workout. I love the endorphins. When I have a bad day Hubby tells me to get my butt to the gym because I always feel MUCH better afterward. It’s pretty addicting but in a good way.
I love running, but I can’t seem to find the time with three boys. I will eventually get back into it…I know my heart needs it. Incidentally, the Blade soundtrack, with all of the techno beat, is an awesome CD to run to. I tried doing it with the CD player in my shorts though and kept dropping it until I finally busted the player!
Way to go…you’re doing great!
I’m not going to lie, you are getting me interested in running. But that means I have to go shopping for new gym shoes and though I love shoe shopping, gym shoe shopping stresses me out. Too many options…
My favorite part about running is twofold: 1) I feel very virtuous during & after my run; 2) the glass of chocolate milk I get to drink afterward. Did you know chocolate milk is like the best thing you can consume after working out? It’s got like the perfect amounts of fat/protein/whatever else.
I managed to run 5x this last week, with Monday/Saturday as my days off. Yesterday I ran 4 miles (my new record) but felt like I was going to die. It didn’t help that my husband had us running at a 10 minute/mile pace, AND I’d drank a liiiiiiiittle too much wine the night before.
Unfortunately I have yet to see a difference on the scale. That is distressing. Maybe my fat is melting away but being replaced by muscle?
Wow Blair, I am really proud of you.
You’re doing an awesome job.
You encourged me start jogging a couple weeks ago. I actually do enjoy it! I like you enjoy the music and the fresh air and after sitting 9 hours in my office every day, I could use some fresh air! I love how my legs tingle when I am done!
I too finished this week for week 1! You inspired me to start. The program I follow says 3 days a week every other day and 2 days to rest. So it seems like you did fine got your 3 days in
great job, keep it up! my favorite part of running is the feeling that I can do anything, that I am strong. It’s loving my body in a way that goes so far beyond the way it *looks* and rests solidly on what it can do. I love the burn of a hard run and the steady rhythm of a slow jog. and as a working mother, the time in one’s own head is absolutely invaluable, no?
Congratulations on doing 3 days!! That is a great start and the C25K thing is only 3 days a week anyway. Oh and if you can run 3 minutes straight you are doing awesome! I just did Week 3, Day 1 and you do 90 seconds run, 90 seconds walk, 3 minutes run, 3 minutes walk and then repeat that. I didn’t think I would be able to do it, but it wasn’t too bad. Finally, isn’t having the app really nice? I would hate to have to pay attention to a timer.
Good job!!
I’m signing you up for a 5k in December, mkay?
I need a running buddy because I can’t run alone, I have no will power to get through the run when I’m alone!
You can do it! I am on week 8 of C25K – I’m running like miles at a time! Before August I couldn’t run to the end of my driveway. My run is now the highlight of my day, second only to seeing my son and my husband.
Good job, babe – you can totally do it.
Hey! you’re not supposed to run everyday, so don’t beat yourself up, you hear? It’s only 3 times a week and you did that!
Keep on, keepin’ on. I’m going to start week six tomorrow and I might just pass out. I did (almost) run 20 minutes in a row Saturday!
Three days of running sounds like a fantastic first week!
I won’t lie — I don’t like anything about exercising. Or I usually don’t, but I’m feeling oddly accomplished by completing week 1 of C25K. I may even be looking forward to starting week 2 tonight even though I know it’s going to be harder. This is strange with me. I do think having the app is making all the difference. I tried doing it with the podcast, but the techno music didn’t do it for me. Now I’m trying to keep myself from singing so I don’t die from being out of breath. It definitely makes the time go by faster.
Great job in getting out 3x last week!
http://auntp.blogspot.com/2010/10/1-week-down-8-to-go.html
Awesome! Keep up the good work!!! No worries repeating a week – I repeated weeks 5 and 7. Better to do that than get discouraged when you just can’t make it
I love the feeling of being all sweaty and not caring. It’s one thing I miss about running in the summer.
Man, I have GOT to find a way to squeeze this running program in. It sounds hard but also it sounds like I might really be proud of myself for doing something I said I would NEVER do. That’s right, I said I would NEVER run. But I want to. I really do. I want to prove to myself that I can do this. I need to do this for my sanity!
Keep it up, hon. It’s okay if you skip. Like you said, life gets in the way but isn’t life grand?
I want to do some running, but it’s just still SO hot here. I’m talking it hit the low 90′s today. NINETIES!
Goonie goon! This week try to run every other day. Your body needs a day off to recover and be rejuvenated with tons of water. Not that what you did isn’t great, but don’t push yourself too hard, you don’t want to get injured.
I did week 1 three times. Ok, well, I did week 1, then got sick for a week, so I “started over.” And I’ll probably end up doing each week twice, just for my own peace of mind, but who knows, once I get further into it, I may feel ready to move on after 1 week. I’m starting week 2 tomorrow.
I’ve already noticed a change in my body– toning up, my asthma isn’t as bad (meaning my airways probably function at 60% now instead of 57).
I’m happy you’re enjoying it, You need to do something for yourself and this is a win-win: good for you mentally and physically.
Yeah!!! I’m so happy to hear that you’re enjoying running!! My long run last week made my pelvis feel like it was going to crack in two!! Yay for relaxin
I took off two days afterward out of necessity. Sometimes a rest is just the thing we need.
I think it’s so cool that you’re tackling the C25k!
You can do it, lady! I am on the last week. THE LAST WEEK!!! I was never a runner. I still struggle, but my first 5K is in three weeks. You will be suprised by how strong you are by the end. Keep it up!
YEAH!!! So happy that you have found the groove of running. Party in the USA – AWESOME song to start to : ) Keep going girl – next year we can run the marathon for Team RMHC together : )
