State Fair.

ergo2 wm State Fair.

ahhh, the ol’ North Carolina State Fair.

Home of the HOLY SWEET JESUS, THEY CAN FRY THAT?!

fried State Fair.

yes.  yes, they can.

Nate & I are not religious fair-goers.  You know the people.  The ones that go every year & drop $200 on rides?  We’re not those people (not that we judge).    But we do like to stop by every now & then & eat.

harrisonfair wm State Fair.

& with every bite of elephant ear, Nate keeps asking, “So how many years do you think this blob of fried dough takes off my life?”

I dunno, babe.  But probably not as much as this:

krispyburger State Fair.

That, my bloggy friends, is a Krispy Kreme burger.

A beef patty & all the trimmings, sandwiched between two classic Krispy Kreme glazed donuts.

::passes out trashcans to all those hurling::

I DID NOT EAT THAT. I promise.  I stayed safe with a corn dog.

ride State Fair.

& I don’t ride rides.  I’m just not that keen on putting my life in the questionably-capable hands of a man named Krusty that smells faintly of pot & shouts out things like, “HEY PRETTY LADY!  WANNA RIDE ME?”  But Harrison was pretty enthralled with all the commotion of the roller coasters, especially the Ring of Fire.

not to be confused with what happens to your vag when a kid is crowning.  gahhh, I am so talented to work in Krispy Kreme burgers, a cute kid, & disgusting birth details into one post.

ergo wm State Fair.

Carrying the little man in the Ergo?  The most comfortable & easy thing ever.  He did eventually get down into his stroller, but we could have easily Ergo-ed it the entire time.  It was also WAY more convenient in the crowds.

But BY FAR, my favorite part of the State Fair this year (other than the darling fuzzy baby donkeys in the animal exhibit) were these bad boys:

Because OBVIOUSLY.

God kills kitten State Fair.

Once I got passed the throw up in my mouth after seeing a krispie cream cheeseburger concoction…I saw that you all had a wonderful time ! Lovely pics!

  2. Kelli Monterroso says:

Oh my gosh! That krispy creme burger makes me want to hurl.

  3. Kimberly says:

You are totally cracking me up!

  4. Gina says:

That burger looks so gross!!! Yuck!

  5. Suz says:

LOL! I just commented on Suzanne (aka pretty*swell)’s blog that she’s a fair go’er enough for me & her both! I think I’m your kind of fair go’er. I don’t ride the rides & don’t like the random food. Does make for great family photos though like the cute ones you posted! Glad yall had fun!

  6. Sue Robinson says:

duuuuude. I had the deep fried pecan pie. So. Good.

  7. Alena says:

I really want a cheese burger.

Not to be confused with *that* one. But I do want one now. Even gory birth details can’t sway that want.

  8. Wynn's Momma says:

Luuuuhhhhve fairs! Glad you were brave enough to take Harrison. We were not quite there to take Wynn to the State Fair of TX. What are you carrying him in by the way? Is it comfortable? My arms, though nicely toned from schlepping 21 lbs around could use a break.

    • heirtoblair says:

It’s an Ergo & I LOVE it. So comfortable & it really distributes his weight evenly so I barely feel it. & you can do a hip carry or carry him on your back!

  9. Beth says:

I’m kind of sad that you didn’t eat the Krispy Kreme burger…I can’t lie…I might like it.
I keep wanting someone to try it and give me a real review :) Maybe I just need to go to the fair and snag one!

  10. Kim says:

All they need to do is put that thar’ burger on a stick and they’ll have them some real fair food! B’cuz everything taste better on a stick — at least at the fair! (or in a margarheti glass, like at the fairs in Michigan!)

  11. No way they totally stole that krispy kreme burger off of the food network. I was watching Man V Food (such a good show BTW but I digress) and it was invented by some guy at a ballpark. Still looks gross but I just had to throw that 2 cents in. I am one of those religious fair goers however I don’t ride the rides I just go to eat and see all the cute animals.

  12. Heidi H. says:

    Best.Ending.Ever.

Ahh, hell. I’m afraid that I’ll think of a kitten next time I…. wait, I never do that.

    Never.

Pink is your color, fo sho. You look very beautiful & glowy in that pic of you & Harry.

Also, y’all need to come & do the Dallas State Fair with us one year. Not that I live anywhere near Dallas, but wouldn’t it be fun?

  13. LCW says:

Fun. Adorable. Yum. And I want to go!

  14. Stephanie says:

I lurv me some fairs. I’m originally from Los Angeles so the fairs out here in Washington don’t hold a candle to the ones in Cali. And I must admit, I am so down for some krispy kreme burger. O M G!

You look great and Harrison is such a cute little blondie!

  15. stephaine says:

The sad thing is I talked to multiple people (friends nonetheless) that said the krispy kreme burger was fabulously tasty.

I should find new friends. Not that I judge.

  16. Max's Mom says:

Um, we totally made our own Krispy Kreme burgers last February, right after DH completed the Krispy Kreme Run in downtown Raleigh. You know, where they run 2 miles, eat a dozen donuts, and then run 2 more miles?? Yep, he did it. And did not hurl. He ended up with an extra box of donuts, though, hence the experiment with Krispy Kremes. LOL.

  17. Brittany says:

OMG, we went on Saturday morning and I got a fried Ho-Ho from the place in the second picture. Needless to say it was gross. It was fun walking around the fair though. Was the first time we had gone in three years. Glad y’all had fun!!

  18. Katie says:

Ugh. I’m going tomorrow (sans kids!) and I am going to try not to eat anything deep fried but I’m on the rag (yay! not…) AND I’m going with a pregnant friend so it’s gonna be hard!

  19. that last picture? i’m sooo confused. and intrigued. and amused.

    thanks for that!

  20. Susan says:

My inlaws hit up the Texas Fair in Dallas this year and said there was deep fried beer. I don’t know if that’s more a “WTF?” or an “AWESOME!”

  21. Susan says:

p.s. you look amazing! Love that first picture.

  22. Becky says:

Between the krispy kreme burger and the huge domos it looks like an amazing day!

  23. Sally says:

What is the weight limit on the Ergo?

  24. Alicia says:

Loved the state fair as a kid! I loved your pics! That Krispy Kreme burger turned my stomach! Uuggh! Your little boynis adorable and your post was funny!! Loved it!

  25. Shandell says:

in Portland, OR there’s a donut place called VooDoo donut, they also have a restaurant called The Original, where they have a VooDoo donut burger and…it’s actually kind of good! I couldn’t eat the whole thing, but I took a bite of a friend’s and it wasn’t as bad as it sounds….

  26. Erin says:

I love the photo of you and Harrison with the fall sunlight in your hair. Beautiful.

I also have an Ergo. And I also love it. Kind of. The belt strappy thing digs into my post-partum lower back fat and that makes it uncomfortable. I think I need to adjust it, yes? Or I could just lose those last few pounds… ha!

  27. Love the pictures!

I showed my husband the picture of the krispy kreme hamburger and he immediately asked how far of a drive this fair was… we live in Florida and he is trying to convince me we should go. Like now. Weirdo.

  28. Sally says:

90 lbs?! Well shoot, now I want one. Sure beats the heck out of my Baby Bjorn that carries only up to 24 lbs.

  29. Nani says:

I saw the krispy creame burger yesterday.. no way.. no freakin way that’s just all kinds of nasty to this Cali born girl.

I did have fun though! It looks like you did too, man I love fairs.

  30. Katherine says:

I had a co-worker a few years ago who told us about the Krispy Kreme burger. He then proceeded to go out, get two Krispy Kreme donuts and a burger, and make one to demonstrate to us, which he did eat. It wasn’t the first time that he had one, and he said that it was good. I was very grossed out watching him eat it.

But I love fairs, and I love your pictures. I’m so glad that you enjoyed yourself.

  31. Anne-Clark says:

I just gotta say…. Good choice not riding the rides.

I don’t ride carni rides b/c I don’t trust a machine you can pack up and put on the back of a truck.

  32. Karen says:

I can’t lie…I would so try that cheeseburger. Doubt I could eat a whole one, since I’d likely die before I got down three bites.

Really though, the fried Reese’s cups? What could possible be better in life than fried chocolate and peanut butter? A: nothing.

I hate that I’m going to miss our fair this year. So glad you got to take the munchkin, and so glad y’all had fun! The pics are adorable!

  33. Amanda Corin says:

Great post! You are too funny! (Welcome back, the old Blair!)

Thanks for makin me laugh! And you look great in your pink shirt and jeans! :)

(I’ve been following for over a year now… love your writing!)

  34. Erin says:

This post put a huge smile on my face. I can’t believe that… burger? dessert? thing? I do want a corn dog now, though.

  35. Sara says:

OMG–you killed me with that last photo…

  36. Erin Smith says:

I’m hoping to take a trip to the fair later this week. Your pics have convinced me. I must say, though, I’ll definitely be skipping the KK burger. BLECH!!

  37. Love the randomness – hilarious! And the krispy kreme burger does make me want to hurl. I remember hearing about when our state fair was going on, but we didn’t get a chance to go, so I never saw a picture of it. But seriously? WOOF!

Oh and the ERGO is probably one of the BEST inventions ever. It has been a life saver for us.

  38. Leah says:

We are going this weekend, I just can’t wait! We are the religious fair people… but we don’t drop cash or really ride too many rides. I just love the atmosphere and my carmel apples :) SOO pumped!

p.s. My hubby really wants one of those krispie kreme burgers…. disgusting I know but I think he’s going to get it. hahaha

  39. Jen says:

I’m from Iowa and I’ve got to be a bit biased and say that we have the best state fair here. If it can be put on a stick and deep fat fried, you’ll find it here!! It looks like you had an awesome time. Sometimes it is fun to just go people watch – you see things and hope that you don’t look like that in others’ eyes!

  40. Damn, BA. Now I’m gonna think about the ring of fire, masturbating kittens (yes, the kittens) and fried oreos ALL freakin’ day.

  41. That is what i miss about NC! Up in Maryland the BIG fair is my county’s fair (the State fair isn’t near as big) but the county fair, while big, isn’t the NC State fair. I went to NC State, as did the hubs, so we have many good memories of going. I even taught people how to milk a cow one year!

  42. Angie says:

Looks identical to the SC State Fair, which we ventured to last Friday. I have to say, though, that the people-watching is fabulous. We were entertained for hours by that alone.

  43. Mungee's Ma says:

    DOMO!

P.S. That Krispy Kreme burger looks dis.gust.ing!

  44. You look beautiful and so very happy. And as for the fried goodness? I maxxed out at fried chocolate, but had I seen fried mac and cheese? It woulda been on like donkey kong.

  45. I threw up in my mouth after looking at that doughnut thingy.
    Grody.

  46. Law Momma says:

    LMAO

    NOW I GET IT!!! hahahahahahahahah

  47. Jenn says:

    Blair,

They have krispy kreme burgers at the SC state fair too…and I ate one! The deets:
    http://the31years.blogspot.com/2010/10/fall-fun-overload.html
I also had fried reeses cups too but they weren’t good. I love your blog!

  48. Mama Durso says:

I love me a good fair! The county fair here in San Diego features the “Heart Attack Cafe” with plenty of fried foods, but I must say, it doesn’t even COMPARE to the number of fried items in the picture you posted. And here I thought I was all cool to have tried a deep fried Klondike bar when I didn’t even know that deep fried pecan pie and Krispy Kreme burgers existed.

  49. Courtney says:

My husband always says the same thing about fair rides. He isn’t going to ride something that gets wheeled into town, thrown together overnight, and ridden by the masses, only to be packed up and shipped off to do it all over again in the next location!

  50. Oh gosh – this is my new fav’ blog to read and another distraction to keep me from spending quality time with my family…lol’

    Jeannette

  51. Rachel says:

Maybe it’s because I’m pregnant, but those donut burgers intrigue me! Love the pics. Especially of you and the wee man in the carrier – really cute.

  52. Curbsideprophet says:

I’m amazed you were able to get a picture with so few people in the background. Looks like you had a great time.

  53. bonzer-christina says:

90 lbs huh… so essentially someone could put a 12 year old in there?

  54. Melissa says:

    OMG! That burger!

  55. janell says:

LOVE our ergo! And our woven wraps too… total, total lifesavers. And as a workin’ mama, it’s great for cuddles in the evening when I just need my baby, kwim? Even if she wants to escape me, she can’t :o )

  56. Heather says:

OMG! I’ve had the “Every time you masturbate…” postcard on my fridge for 6 years. Seriously!

  57. Heather M. says:

I have NEVER laughed so hard at any blog..EVER!!! This should get an award or something…
