Jackass pose.

This week has been a pretty cool week for me.  I dropped a little weight by Thursday & after that, I refused to step on the scale.  So I have no idea what I weigh this morning. & it feels good.  I strictly followed my plan:

thursday Jackass pose.

& I worked through my Mindset Makeover on Nutrisystem’s website.  This week, I focused hard on exercise – squeezing it in, making it a priority, & really soaking in how I feel after I work out.  Successful.  Rejuvenated.  Ready to conquer the lifestyle change for one more day.  With confidence.

My Top Workouts

  • Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred
  • going for a walk/run (~1.0 mile in this heat)
  • yoga

oh, yoga.  How I love thee.  I love how long & limber & relaxed I feel after a good session.  I’ve taken a few classes, watched a few online videos, did prenatal yoga & even tried my hand at Yoga-Pilates or whatever hybrid Labradoodle name those classes have.  But nothing…NOTHING…prepared me for this:

DSC 0023 685x1024 Jackass pose.

::enter stream of expletives that include the f-word & hell:: I thought I was a decent beginner in the ways of yoga.  & maybe I am.  JUST NOT SATAN YOGA.  Satan Yoga, aka Jillian Michaels Yoga Meltdown.  As I was standing on my head, sweat pouring from me trying to “rep it out” with Jillian the Hun, I panted, “this is not what I envisioned for yoga.”  Jokes on me for picking Jillian, hmm?  & FOR NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO THE CAPTAIN OBVIOUS TITLE THAT PROMISES 5 LBS LOST IN ONE SHORT WEEK.

DSC 0027 685x1024 Jackass pose.

This is what I now fondly call “Jackass Pose.”  (side note:  I was going to call it “donkey pose” but apparently that really is a pose in yoga.)  & I’m not entirely sure what pose I’m trying to accomplish in this picture.  I NEVER CLAIMED TO BE A YOGA MASTER, PEOPLE.  But damn, do I look awkward.  & like I’m made out of solid oak, & not in a “wow, she’s tight & muscular & solid” way but like “holy shit, that girl is so inflexible it is a miracle of God that she can even have sex.”  (thank you, God)  This was also taken about 3 seconds before I collapsed & begged for mercy.

Also?  I don’t think I lost the promised 5 lbs.

What about you?  Have you done anything new this week?  Stretched your wings, been a little foolish, laughed a lot at your growth & progress?  Believe me, Nate & I laughed hard at my yoga adventures this week – there’s nothing like a girl with a fat tire around her hips trying to perfect Downward Dog to spawn hilarity.

After last weeks McFatty post I was inspired but kidney stones decided to be inspired as well and I got nothing done short of reading on my couch. I am still having some small problems but husband also said “this is it” to exercising and I feel confident that if I can have a workout buddy this will make this journey much easier. I am hoping I’m back on the horse aka yoga mat shortly.

Also I have a new blog design and giveaway check it out! http://nicolesspirit878.blogspot.com/

  2. I did some new eating! It was a PITA, but will help. This diabetes scare is really getting to me…so for now I’ll pass on the cap’t crunch and go for the healthy option instead.

You look great! I still need to work on not weighing myself all the time.

Jillian and I have just started our relationship, aka I finally braved the 30 Day Shred. Goal this week: 5 times (I run about four times a week.) I alternate between cursing her and bowing to her in awe, but it’s definitely a tough 20 minutes!!

Of course baby boy changed his eating schedule this morning, rendering my morning workout impossible to get in by the time DH left for work :(

  4. I like the stretching kind of yoga. I tried p90x’s yoga segment and thought it was the devil. I couldn’t even complete the first 30 minutes. It was ridiculous.

I’m trying a pedometer and a jogging stroller this week–to see if I can incorporate a more activity into my daily routines–not just jaunts to the gym in the evenings.

Here’s my post for the week:

  5. Amanda says:

Have you only done Jillian’s yoga video? I would love to try some other ones – I tried yoga once with a ballerina friend, and after a 2-hour kick-you-ass video I haven’t really wanted to try again!

I can only imagine how hard it is to fit in “workout time” into a life with a husband, kid, work, and everything else you have going on. You have been doing great so far though, so I’m sure you’ll find the right balance for you. :)

  6. Kimberly says:

You crack me up! I have tried a form of yoga that is geared to bad backs and it is still difficult. Like 90 year olds have more flexibility than I do and I have about as much gracefulness as Buzz Lightyear or whatever that old astronauts name is that was on Dancing with the stars.
You’re doing great! Keep it up!!

  7. liz says:

… jillian has a yoga video? hmmm… that sounds very intriguing. i love yoga – love it. (you are so brave for taking pictures of yourself while doing yoga… my my my… )

i had a rough week… well a horrible week. i gained – a lot. but we’re dealing with my very very sick grandpa…. and i’m a stress eater… obviously (if i ever doubted it before).

anyhow – thanks for the continued inspiration…

  8. Lisa says:

I think “Jillian Michaels Yoga” is an oxymoron. I think of relaxation and centering and all that Qi bullshit with I think of yoga, and I find nothing relaxing about her at all.

Nothing new this week, just pushing myself at more of the same and feeling good about it!

  9. The Mommy says:

When my first son was born, I did my aerobics while he hung out in his swing. There’s nothing quite as humiliating as realizing he was laughing – OUT LOUD – while I was exercising in front of him. Even my 6 month old knew I looked like a dork!

Good for you! You look better than you think. At least you were upright…I would have been crooked and probably leaning on something/someone!

  10. Heidi H. says:

Oh, oh, oh!! So glad you went with JM Yoga!! We can suffer together! You made me laugh at this ugly hour (anything before 10am– ok, fine 11am, is an ugly hour in Heidi’s world) with your labrodoodle comment. The bff does Piyo as an exercise, but I’m pretty sure it was the Greek yogurt I refuse to eat first.

& not to thwart your plans of teeny tiny-ness, but seriously, the Dove dark chocolates are SO encouraging! Inside every individually wrapped chocolate is some little diddy like, ‘YOU GO GIRL!’ or my personal fave & the one I gave to my hubby to encourage him, ‘A Woman’s Intuition– Never Leave Home Without it.’. He was so glad for that. Truly & honest.

    :-)

    You go girl. For realz.

  11. Tiffany says:

You are rockin’ it darlin’! Way to go – you look fabulous! I wish some of your motivation would rub off on me. I just can’t stick with anything long enough to see results. ugh. I am doomed to be fat the rest of my life.

  12. Wendy says:

uh oh! I bought this last week at Target, but haven’t dared to remove the shrinkwrap yet. Sounds like I’m in for some fun. Thanks for the laughs!

  13. haha i took a 3.5 mile walk in the middle of last week and managed to drop 2 pounds and drank a lot of water..

  14. : ) Good for you working hard! Your sorority friend had a link to your blog in her post : ) I don’t know if I have ever met you before. Way to go making such great eating choices and exercising! That is awesome as can be! : )

  15. metta1313 says:

Oh me, I’ve just eaten a lot, had a meltdown that I’m not consciously accepting imperfection, and then had a revelation.

    http://mommyhoodatthirty.com/?p=1034

But you’ve got me thinking. I can totally fit in 30 minutes into my life for “Jillian the Hut.” 30-day shred style, not yoga style. My body has an aversion to yoga, though I wish it wouldn’t.

  16. Carol Ann says:

I did a class at the Y last week that nearly killed me. I’m going back for seconds today, so I guess it’ll be something I love to hate.

Ever tried Bikram Yoga (Hot Yoga)? It’s yoga in a room that is 100 degrees. It’s hell, but amazing, and even if you are made of oak, your muscles will warm up and you’ll be amazed at how flexible you become. Seriously, I was like elastigirl in that class!

  17. Desi says:

I have the Jillian Michael’s yoga dvd….It is still in its package and apparently I need to open it up and get at it. I like to do it in privacy where nobody can walk in and see my unstretchability (sp?)!

  18. Alena says:

Dude, I look like a JOKE trying to do yoga. I have told myself that tall people have a harder time to do it gracefully because we’re too far from the floor. You can borrow that excuse any time you need it.

Today for my “MF Monday” posted I talked about why I picked NS….knowing that people still in their fat jeans would talk shit. They did. Never ones to disappoint and all.

  19. Heidi-D says:

Oh honey… We all look awkward doing yoga. You are not alone! Also, I commend you on stepping away from the scale! I did that last week – it felt SOOO good. Now I am back into the routine and down 4 lbs from the last time I weighed.

Love that you shared those pics with us! Love, love love : )

  20. jenny says:

I so didn’t knw that Jillian had a yoga dvd! Totally going to have to try that!

The one new thing I tried this past week was getting up before work to workout. Initially it was tough to drag my ass out of bed at 5:30am but I’m getting used to it and it honestly is a great start to the day.

please don’t get upset with me for this comment, but I have to say it because I’m bummed.
I started “Mc Fatty” Because of YOU. I had no motivation to lose weight until I saw your success, and your failure and your honesty about the struggle.
Then you stopped losing, had some med changes, maybe started gaining, and now stopped sharing your weight with us.
Obviously we all do this for the health aspects, but we also do it for the number on the scale. I was somewhat motivated by the number on YOUR scale more than the number on my scale.
Just because it’s maybe not moving like you want it to, I don’t think you should stop weighing yourself or telling us your weight. It’s refreshing when I know I’m not the only one with a scale stuck on 187, or whatever the number is.

  22. Suz B says:

I think that’s the first time in a while I’ve seen your computer nook. Looks great! I haven’t done yoga in a while (I was doing it a couple years ago with P90X). I felt just as awkward as you but did enjoy it. Its definitely something I could get back into. I think its great to be able to laugh at yourself! I know I have to when yoga’ing!

  23. Alicia says:

I’m a yogi and your look beautiful! Looks like you could use a prop under your hands for comfort and that pose is more about balancing than getting your leg really high. However I’ve never done JM Yoga. I’m interested though… My baby weight loss program involved breast feeding. My babys 10 months, I’m still breast feeding but I also have 7 lbs left to go. hmm, not such a plan as I though!

This week I’m going to step it up with some jogging (if the heat doesn’t kill me the 40lb 3 year old and 18 lb 10 month old in the jogging stroller will!)

  24. Steph says:

No weight loss in about a month now. Soooo disappointed.

My hubs has food poisioning AGAIN, too! BAAAAH.

  25. Elizabeth says:

Jillian is a you-know-what! i have been doing her “no more trouble zones” dvd and it is KILLER — much harder than the 30 day shred. but it feels so good. i would be awful at the yoga workout though b/c i’ve never done yoga. way to go for sticking with it! you look great! :)

  26. Alright ladies, you did what you do best and kept me from quitting this week. I was so close. If you want to know how I almost gave up…
    http://www.thereelfamilyblog.com/2010/07/i-almost-gave-up.html

    PS-
I am afraid of Jillian Yoga, major props to you for doing it. Bethany Frankel’s Yoga is gathering dust on my shelf I am doing it this week.

  27. Joanna says:

Last night my husband and I picked up Jillian’s Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism DVD since we can’t find time with his new work schedule to get to the gym anymore. We’re in fairly decent shape, but wanted to slim down some more. We got through the 5 minute warm up, and the first of seven 6 minute circuits before we were both gasping like dead fish on our living room floor. It’s supposed to be a 50 minute workout. We survived ten.

It’s serious cardio hell with kickboxing and plyometrics. Jumping plie squats anyone?

  28. Theta Mom says:

You are working so hard and I need to get motivated!! WTH? BlogHer isn’t enough for me to be motivated? *sigh

I still have some of this “baby” weight and the big conference is like a week away…at least I finally get to meet you IRL!!

  29. Cristina says:

I am almost embarrassingly obsessed with Jillian Michaels. I’m trying to lose the baby weight too and so I wanted to recommend some other DVDs of hers: Boost your Metabolism and Trouble Zones. One is a 1 hour cardio and the other is a 1 hour strength DVD. They’re AMAZING. And the good thing is you can only do 20 minutes if that’s all you have time for. Or if you want strength and cardio all in one, divide them. They have REALLY helped with my baby weight loss. I’ve got about 10 pounds to go and I’m hoping she’ll carry me the whole way through!! Good for you for tracking everything that is so impressive. I do not have the will power, you’re so impressive.

  30. Shahny says:

Hi I’m back!! Got a little discouraged with my lack of progress but glad I’m back on the McFatty wagon. Oh yoga, not good for busty/curvy ladies like ourselves hehe

  31. Jessica says:

I agree with Christina above. I feel like you were dedicated to McFatty while you were losing, but now that you are not (or not as much as you were) you aren’t as into it…

  32. Good for you! I love yoga but have an intense hatred for Jillian Michaels. Mostly because of the torture her workouts put me through.

I started something new this week. I’m doing the Couch to 5k program in preparation for running my first 5k on October 16. Should be interesting since at this point I can only run for about a minute before I have to stop, but hey that’s what the program is for, right?

  33. How did you eat your 1 tsp of peanut butter? (On your lunch menu.) I see that fat option and just roll my eyes, thinking that unless I have a carb or a hunk of chocolate, licking some peanut butter off a spoon doesn’t sound appealing.

I’m jazzing up my vegetable options with salad recipes from my cookbooks. Like, coleslaw! Who knew coleslaw can be just a bag of chopped cabbage, vinegar, celery seed, and a bit of Splenda? So much better than the thick, mayonaise-y version–and kept me on my diet during the days when facing yet another plate of iceberg lettuce made me want to off myself.

I’m down 10! And a whole inch off my waist and boobies. (Only 1/2 off my hips. Damn it.) :)

    • heirtoblair says:

Jaci, it is BLASPHEMY to not like to lick peanut butter right out of the jar! It’s like…the HIGHLIGHT of my day that at the end of the day, I get to dig in a tsp of peanut butter & just lick it right off. DELICIOUS.

  34. Janelle says:

I’m with Blair, Jaci. One of life’s great pleasures is PB straight off the spoon…or your finger. Mmmm.

Most yoga moves feel like “Jackass pose” to me. Just not my thing right now!

  35. Johanna says:

Good Job! I do agree that Jillian is Satan’s Mistress (along with my MIL.) I am thrilled to not have to do the 30 DS until after February. Although, I am still afraid she may show up at my house and yell at me! I don’t care if you are pregnant, drop and give me 10, squeeze, hold on buddy. Ahhhhhhhhh!

  36. christina-bonzer says:

I was just looking at your nutrisystem menu. How do you function on 900 calories a day? I’d be dead.

    • heirtoblair says:

Bonzer, that’s just a snapshot of lunch & dinner…with breakfast, it shoots it to 1300ish calories per day.

  37. Kristen says:

    Hiya B!
On Saturday, I went to my first ever Bikram yoga class! Otherwise known as “it’s-hot-as-h*ll-someone-get-me-outta-here” yoga, Bikram is a 90-minute class done in an 105 degree room, and despite all of that, I LOVED it! I even went back on Sunday – voluntarily!! It was mentally and physically challenging, detoxifying, and boy, do you ever sweat! Like pools. Huge Olympic-sized swimming pools of sweat. But, supposedly it’s amazingly detoxifying and burns like 600 calories per session! And, being in a room that steamy is basically like getting a facial. Anyway, all that to say, stick with it! (I also must say, I’ve done the 30-Day Shred and it WORKS! Ok, so I only did 10 days. Whatever…still works.) Best of luck!

  38. Lacey says:

I would do so much better at this if it was Fatass Friday vs McFatty Monday…

Get a yoga block (Target sells some). It will make the poses so much easier :)

  41. Vanessa says:

how long is Jillian’s Yoga workout???
I’ll like to do it with my teenager..see how tough he really is..lol!

    I shredded 2x this week..whewww!
