My friends, welcome to Thursday. Which unfortunately gets the shaft because Friday is JUST SO FREAKIN’ awesome that Thursday is all, “What did I ever do to deserve such disrespect?” Like middle child syndrome.
So I thought that maybe Thursday deserved some awesome. Thursday deserved some inspiration, some whimsy, some sentiment, & a touch of sunshine (although thankyouverymuch the sunshine is blaring down quite nicely at 100 degrees here). Thursday deserved Modern Bird.
[Modern Bird, we've been waiting for you.]
A few months ago, I had the privilege of working with Megan & Gregg Deal of Modern Burd Studios. They graciously offered my family a piece of artwork of our choosing – ZOH MY GAH. ZOMG. Really?! I die of happiness. I had trouble selecting a picture – should it be Harrison? Or Tuck? A family portrait? before ultimately settling on the picture in my blog header. My friend Speed caught it on camera for us outside of a birthday party & for the first time in months, I thought I looked happy. I felt like she captured one brief day in months of hell where we looked happy. & then Gregg took that picture, that incredible picture that still lifts my heart whenever I look at it, & he turned it into a piece of art.

A beautiful picture.

into a proof that melts my heart.
into artwork that captures a family. In paint & wood.
[It is beautiful.]
Gregg, you do amazing work. & Megan? I think we’re long-lost sisters. A snippett, if you will, from our emails regarding Nate’s excitement over Modern Bird:
Megan: Was he really stoked??!! That is the BEST when the hubs are into it, too!
Blair: STOKED. All like, “Where are we going to put it????” & I’m all, “DOWNSTAIRS WHERE THE BLUE IS, DUH.”
men.
See? They are FUN. & y’all, a husband-wife tag-team of a business just makes my heart gush with happiness. The only thing I could possibly love more than small business is small family business run by the entire family. I can stand behind that, can’t you? A little background from their site:
The concept behind Modern Bird Studios was born about three years ago as an experiment he had bouncing around in his head. Gregg has always liked to push the boundaries within his art, whether playing with space or combining traditional and non-traditional mediums. He decided to create a piece that utilized technology and painting. Gregg combines his original urban-style with photography, graphic design and traditional painting to create handmade, original art pieces.
Gregg and his wife Megan know that most modern art available is enormously expensive or mass produced and impersonal. Consequently, they have decided to expand this new style of art to those who have the same appreciation for hip, modern style and who desire to have something more personal to them to enrich their homes.
[& this is the magic that they create:]
