I am horrified.

There are a lot of things wrong with this world.  I know it.  Medicare is a clusterfark, people still eat McDonald’s, & Target is always out of the nail polish color that I want.

But y’all?

There is a post on YouTube with little girls gyrating to “Single Ladies.”  I almost posted it on my blog.  & then realized I wanted no part in exposing these girls, & even know it’s hypocritical to even DISCUSS it because it will garner exposure.  But I’m so grossed out that I cannot NOT discuss it.

We live in a country that is so “sexually liberated” that allows this.  We live in a society that watched with rapture as Britney Spears gyrated across the screen at 15 in an altered Catholic school uniform.  (Nate still remembers the day that he first saw Britney).

But mention that you’re going to bang the brains out of your husband once a day for his satisfaction, & our purist background comes out to say that it’s servitude.  Or necessary.  Because, ewwww….that much sex?

We’re okay with six-year-olds grabbing their…ummm….future breasts & humping the air on YouTube, but a 19-year-old can be on the sex offender registry for having relations with his 15-year-old girlfriend?  I’ve seen 13-year-old girls hold bras up to themselves in Victoria’s Secret while brazenly staring down my husband.  HE LEFT THE STORE because he was too uncomfortable.   When he should have been helping his WIFE pick out lingerie for their anniversary, he had to leave because he was afraid of being labled a “pervert” by pre-pubescent, overly-exposed girls.

Oh, & parent or whoever that posted that YouTube?  You suck.  EW.  Not only did you allow your child to dress like a whore in fishnets & panties that I would only wear in boudior pictures, but then you posted it for the entire world to watch YOUR LITTLE GIRL bend over & shake her ass at a camera.  You repulse me.

Put clothes on your children.  Let them dance ballet & pretend to be Snow White until they are 10.  Let them play Maple Town & not imagine what happens after Barbie walks down the aisle to Ken.  They have another 60 years to be ravished & oggled.  So let them be babies for the first few years.

I don’t care if I get hate mail on this.

HeirtoBlair500x150 v41 I am horrified.

I commented when I saw this on Jill's fbook page. It made me feel sick inside. Why would you do that to your baby????????

  2. Jenn says:

    Get 'em Girl!

  3. Janelle says:

So glad I have boys…and glad that you've got an overwhelming number of folks who agree with you on this one. Because their dancing/outfits? NOT OK!

  4. Rebecca says:

This video is a pedophile's dream. SO sickening and perverse IMO! Gross, gross, gross. Poor girls.

  5. I agree so much! And I won't even go to look at the video. It's bad enough that they teach this sort of behavior but to post it on youtube for all of the pedophiles to see is downright dangerous. These parents don't think of this. They think only of themselves and how this will get them a laugh from others. Want to know what would be more funny? If the mother had to dress like this and dance and post it for the world to see. Ugh…like the beauty pageant moms who have their daughters wear fake teeth and make-up, sending the message to their child that they aren't beautiful just being them..

Okay..sorry…went off on a tangent there!

  6. Caity says:

that is sick. i can't even say anything due to my state of shock! YUCK!

  7. Heidi H. says:

Just watched this after reading all the comments. Hubby was sitting next to me & I told him what we were watching.

    Hubby: Well, they’re good dancers…
Me: Would you ever let Audrey (our daughter) do this?
    Hubby: NO! HA!

Leave it to a dude to point out the unnecessary. :-)

  8. Julie S. says:

I totally agree with you. It is disgusting that our kids are being encouraged to be this way.

  9. Dawn says:

I haven't seen the video, I have no intention of going to find it, but um, I love you :) and, you need a LIKE button for this!!!!

  10. kathy says:

I agree with you. Kids are made to grow up too quickly. It's very sad. At 5 years old I only cared about Mickey Mouse and Strawberry Shortcake. I could care less at that age who was on the radio unless it was the Chipmunks

  11. Yeah, I always feel irate when I see a pre teen girl – WITH HER PARENTS – dressed in something that barely covers her ass. I just want to slap them in the faces and say, "FUCKING, HELLO? DO YOU REALIZE THAT YOU ARE PUTTING YOUR *CHILD* ON DISPLAY FOR ANY PEDO OR PERVERT TO SALIVATE AT?"

I mean, look. Teenage girls are sneaky business. I knew girls in high school who used to wear one thing to school and change in the bathroom to clothes they had (that they bought with their own money from jobs). But it's like.. When I see these girls out in public in the company of their parents, I just want to scream. Cover your babies up, for crying out loud. Once, Josh and I stood in line for a roller coaster at Six Flags with two girls who were about 13. They told us they were 13, because it was one of their birthdays (we knew all of this b/c it was a new ride, they were FREAKED, and we stood there for 2 hours with them and actually ended up riding the coaster with them) and they were frumpy, silly, PRE TEENAGE GIRLS. They chattered about music, and books, and school, and were total dorks who were completely unconcerned with how they looked to the outside world. I will remember those girls FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE, because after a day of seeing teenaged girls prancing about Six Flags with their booties hanging out of their shorts trying to be hot shit, these geeky girls who weren't growing up too fast were a breath of fresh air.

    / end rant

  12. Erica says:

Hate mail? Oh hellz no. I would write you a love letter if I had the time. Our society is totally flucked up when it comes to sexuality (I used to be a sex therapist in a former life- and man, could I tell you stories…) Thanks for posting this. As always, you rule. The end.

  13. Penny says:

Ugh. I so agree. I teach, and you would not believe the things 2nd graders come to school in. Don't get me started on high schoolers. My husband teaches high school and they had girls come to school in LINGERIE during spirit week.

Barf. I won't go to youtube to watch that video. G-ross. Not to mention the potential pedophiles that the mom just exposed her kids to. A+ for parenting.

  14. SusanK says:

You said it! It was just on Entertainment Tonight (or one of those shows) and my husband and I just stared agape…

Totally agree – those parents DO suck.

  15. Emily says:

    I couldn't agree more!

  16. Cindy A says:

TOTALLY AGREE!! I am soo disgusted by what people let their kids do these days and what they let them watch. I have not seen this video, but the way you describe it, I can only imagine….

  17. Kourtney says:

Haven't seen the video and out of nosiness looked for it on youtube but couldn't find it. PS I still have my maple town – Bobby Bear and Patty Rabbit rocked my world!

  18. Mary says:

Yes, I've seen it posted on several boards. I agree!

  19. michele says:

I am so with you on this one. It's disgusting. Parents think it's cute to tramp up their little kids and make them act like adults, but it's just sad. Let your kids be KIDS, childhood only lasts so long. Plenty of time to tramp it up in college. :)

I just feel sorry for the little girls, they don't know any better. In fact, society encourages this behavior. It's the PARENTS who should have protected their children from this kind of exposure. Shame on them, seriously.

  20. Ann says:

Amen!! The media is to blame for sexualizing girls at such a young age. Maybe it did start with Britney. But there seems to be no end in sight. Look at Miley Cyrus…she's headed down the trashy path, she's grinding on some 44 year old guy and her dad says its ok. My dad would have kicked my bum!! My six year old daughter loves Miley Cyrus and I'm horrified. Sexuality is in your face, everywhere u go. If we don't nip it in the bud we're going to face a whole generation of teenage pregnancy, not to mention eating disorders. Sometimes I just want to move my whole family to Tibet or someplace where we can be shielded from all this. Someplace where no one has the time to care about fake boobs, size zero, girls kissing girls for the benefit of males in the room. ARRRGH!! I'M MAD AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE! Shame on these parents for feeding into this BS.

  21. liz says:

I naturally agree with your main point, I just find your points of comparison odd. I would also not like to hear about someone banging the brains out of their husband once a day. The fact that the main characters are married doesn't make me want to hear about it. Also, I think there are instances where a 19-year-old most certainly should be on the sex offender registry for having relations with his 15-year-old girlfriend. Again, I agree with the main premise, I just find the examples chosen to defend your position strange.

  22. Jen says:

As a 3rd grade teacher I can tell you that what I see on a daily basis would disturb anyone. These little girls are over sexualized and proud of it, because mom is promoting their cheerleading on the sidelines, encouraging them to learn the latest Britney/Hannah Montana moves, and tell her which boys are "hot" in their class. There is not a day that goes by that I don't hear about a third grader's "dating drama." It's sickening.

  23. Anonymous says:

I will agree with everyone that this video is disturbing and that the blame does fall on the adults involved directly in the situation but it would seem society as a whole is to blame too. People keep saying these girls are too young to dance like this but why should women be dancing like this at all?

Should we not be encouraging all women of today to respect themselves enough not to go out in public and flaunt off their "sexual side" through their dance moves just to try and get a guy's attention.

Children like to emulate people who they perceive to be popular be it movie stars, singers, etc. And if adults support stars like beyonce, brittany, etc. and think they have great dance routines and are popular how can we not expect children to want to be like them and copy what they do?

Eventually that starts to rub off on parents too because who doesn't want to say they raised the next beyonce?

Anyways, just a thought and by no means am I taking the blame of the adults directly involved in the situation I'm just saying maybe as a society we all need to make a change as to what is acceptable behavior for women of any age.

  24. Angel Conklin says:

I totally agree. What a crock that parents would let their little girls do this.

  25. Somer says:

I wholeheartedly agree. And our society wonders why our kids are growing up so fast! I hate walking through a children's clothing section and seeing what they want children to wear…some of that stuff is trashier than what I wore in college at the club! Seriously what 4 yr old needs a sequined halter top? What little girl needs a uber string bikini! And we wonder why we have pedophiles out there…people dress their children to look like adults…not kids.

  26. Carrie says:

I agree 180%! And the worst part is that about 10 minutes ago the parents of these girls were on Good Morning America trying to justify the dance routine and say that "it was never meant to be seen by the whole world." REALLY? The fact that you sat in that audience and watched your children dance like strippers and had zero problem with it, disgusts me. UGH. Sometimes this world is a scary place.

  27. Kim says:

    Well said as usual!

  28. Angela says:

I haven't watched the video, because it sounds terrible. Yuck.

However, I am guilty of keeping the radio on "my" stations in the car sometimes; I am going to have to make a conscious effort to change my listening habits, because my 2-year old will sing some of the songs. It's just pop, but the other day she was singing "All the 'Singer' Ladies". Whoops.

  29. Deanna says:

I agree with you. We live just about as south as you can get it Florida, so girls are constantly walking around in "less then bikinis" (thanks vanilla ice) and normally they are still under the age of 15. I am mortified by how mature they are dressing, acting, let alone how much more bodacious their bod is then mine. I dont understand why kids dont want to be kids anymore. They are in such a hurry to grow up- but once they grow up they do everything they can to stay young.

  30. Mama Pea says:

I just saw the video on TV this morning! Very disturbing. Like you said, there are definite double standards when it comes to this stuff… remember the sexy & seductive 15 yr old Britney you're talking about is the same girl who proclaimed the merits of saving sex for marriage. [No wonder the poor girl ended up shaving her head!]

  31. J says:

Those little girls are so talented, it's so sad that their parents would expose them in this way. They are still capable of showing off their dancing skills without skanky lingere, shaking their butts and all that make-up. How disgusting that a parent would let their child preform this way. This is not okay, and no way will my daughter EVER be involved in a dance studio that would allow this.

  32. tabi_ja says:

This is so sad, and almost makes me glad I don't have a daughter. Even so, with this sort of attitude toward young girls, it's going to be difficult to raise my son to be a gentleman. What a world. . .

I have not seen the video, nor will I go look for it. I have seen enough disgusting things in my time, and I don't need to add to the list. Sickening.

  33. Alicia says:

WELL SAID! Innocence doesn't seem to last as long as it did when I was young (I'm 32). I have two little girls and my dream/hope for them is that they still believe in playing pretend at 12 years old… boys and sex ~ no thank you! There's a life time for that but childhood is so fleeting. I wish I'd spent more time as a child.

  34. Rachel says:

Ditto! I once saw a girl at TI in Vegas, shaking her booty during their afternoon pool happy hour thing. She couldn't have been more than 13. And everywhere around her were drunk men. It was sick. I was appalled.

  35. Raine says:

It's things like that that make me glad I have a boy, and worried because I'm hoping for a girl in the future. I saw part of the video, and I just wonder what in the world the parents were thinking, and who on earth chose those "costumes" (it's pretty disturbing what sort outfits are available in children's sizes).

I also don't understand why "Single Ladies" is suddenly a kid's song – I've seen it on several lists of "songs to play with your kids in the car/sing along to with your kids, etc), but I guess that's a whole new issue.

  36. Stacey says:

Hear hear! It turns my stomach when I see shit like that. They are babies…let them be little girls and little boys for cripes sake!

  37. exgf says:

Just another sign our precious babies grow up too fast… what has the world come to?

    Happy Friday Blair!!!!!

  38. Joelle says:

After seeing this post, and the video, I TRULY TRULY pray to god that I never have a daughter. Ever.

  39. Meredith says:

In regards to Amy (10:50am), the previous commenter who said that parents where she lives aren't allowed at dance practice–switch to a different company. As parents, we SHOULD NOT TOLERATE being told that we are not welcome at our childrens' activities. It is exactly that sort of mentality that opens the door for abuse to our children.

    But Blair, I totally agree…

  40. Although I have to sheepishly admit that I had lunch today at McD's* I have to give this post two huge thumbs up. You. Go.

    * so that Seth could run off some crazy energy in the germ-riddled playplace and give me half-a-second to snuggle Erin in peace and have strangers tell me I have a beautiful family. Forgive me the calories, B? ;)

  41. Shahny says:

I have yet to see the video but I couldnt agree with you more. Every time i see a girl that doesnt respect herself, I beg God that my future daughters (if I have any) stay innocent and respect themselves.

    Love the post Blair.

  42. Elizabeth says:

Thank you for posting this love. As a teacher in an inner city school among a very sexually active demographic I appreciate this more than you know.

  43. Jess says:

I had no idea what you were talking about but it just made national news. GMA is featuring a story about it this morning. Cannot believe what they're wearing! I prefer the youtube video of the baby dancing to Single Ladies (very cute if you haven't seen it).

  44. Katie says:

Totally agree! That was just awful!

  45. Keri says:

I saw this video yesterday. I sat there with my jaw open the whole time. I was both amazed at the girls' talent and repulsed by the outfits and the moves. I made my husband watch it with me (he didn't want to). At the end he said, and that's why we have pedophiles out there.

I remember as a 7 year old girl pretending to be Madonna and using mascara to put a mole above my lip and trying to dress up like her. Oh, and singing "Papa Don't Preach" without knowing what it meant AT ALL! I think things like that are bound to happen but in your own living room. And not choreographed with a huge audience of people cheering you on like you're in a burlesque show. Those parents are disgusting and I am so thankful I don't have a daughter right now.

  46. Hilary says:

I saw the post for it on MSN the other day and nearly puked in my mouth! What in the world were those parents thinking?

  47. blackhuff says:

I agree with you. I think that in today's society, people think that it's cute rather to see what it actually are. How is this cute, to dress your daughter this way? This is why there are so many pedofiles out there, because people allow their kids to dress this way. Disgusting.

  48. Ruth says:

I haven't read in detail all the above comments but after skimming I haven't seen this mentioned.

I hope this is a wake-up call to all the celebrities, that all celebrities are role models for young boys and girls of all ages.

Personally I wouldn't allow my daughter listen to this type of music… nor would I allow my son to listen to Gangster rap where men degrade their woman in the songs.

We as parents have the ability to curb this destruction of our children's youth.

  49. carrie b. says:

i so appreciate you writing this post, and am thankful other ppl find this disgusting. i

    really sad.

  50. Mrs.F says:

WHy the hell would you get hate mail on something like this?! This kind of thing disgusts me too. Well said! I will be watching animated Disney movies & playing with dolls until she is 12. I did haha…

  51. rbenson says:

I have to agree with you completely. The fact that one of the parents posted this video on youtube completely floors me. Do they not know the kind of people how will be watching there little girls. I feel sorry for the kids of these people.

  52. Jenny says:

well ya know those kinda girls are the one who end up on the pole when theyre 18. oh well. they arent my kids so i honestly couldnt care less.

  53. Kristen says:

    AGREE.

I havent seen the video, but I was at the mall recently so I am pretty sure what you are talking about.

Why cant we let our children be children? Why do they think that being provocative at 12 is normal? There are too many sicko's out there, the last thing we need to do is encourage that type of behaviour.

  54. Gioia says:

I agree with you!!!! This is a great post and hopefully you don't get any hate mail!!!!!!

  55. Alaina says:

You put it very well what's happened to kids recently. I look at the clothes they sell to little girls to dress like Hannah Montana and (insert your appropriate pop star here), and it's like, seriously? My parents would never EVER let me walk around dressed like that. And these are young girls clothes, too! Totally agree with you on this, for sure.

  56. Carrie says:

Well said! Bravo! Let kids be kids… time for all that soon enough.

  57. Jami says:

Noticed your Twitter is gone, hope everything is okay.

  58. Jami says:

Disregard, my Twitter was just acting up….

  59. Tricia says:

I didn't see the video you are speaking of but I still agree. My husband is especially strict when it comes to our daughters' clothing. He gets a lot of grief from people because our oldest isn't allowed to wear a bikini, short shorts (which is any shorts but Bermudas because her legs are so long), and no showing of the belly. To which he replies she's 5 and our daughter so you don't need to worry about it. She has plenty of time to grow up and we aren't going to hurry it along at all.

  60. Charlotte Anne says:

I just saw a book today entitled "Stop Dressing Your Six Year Old Like a Skank". I kid you not and I think it sounds like a delightful read.

  61. Theta Mom says:

I must be living under a rock because I did not see this video – just googled and now I did. And I am just as horrified.

The first question in my mind as I was watching this was who the hell choreographed this routine for these girls??? The costume didn't bother me as much as the "dancing" itself – completely inappropriate.

Kudos to you for writing this.

  62. Melissa says:

Guess I am the only person who disagrees with everyone. They are seven year old girls having fun. I guess I see it in a different light having once danced and know what the judges want. Everyone is talking about God this and Respect that. Do you honestly believe that by these girls displaying there extreme amount of talent now at the edge of seven will cause them to be heathens later on in life or to not respect there bodies? Come on everyone we live in the year 2010 lets not be dramatic. So on that note bravo to them.

  63. Great web page, where did you obtain the theme?
