Mommas.

Today, we dedicated our son to God.  Promising that we will do our best to show him Jesus, to raise him in a home that shows reverence to God, & to always say prayers before bed.  & remind him not to repeat the words we may utter under our breath at red lights.

The Momma is so beautiful.  I love that she gave me her eyes so that I could pass them down to Harrison.

I’m so proud to call her mine.  & I know that she’s proud to call me hers.  I love you, Momma, for telling me that every day.  I love you for loving me when I am so broken, so imperfect, because in it, you show me how to be a mother.

I simply wish that her mother were here today.  I know she’d be so proud of The Momma.

& realized today that in an odd way, celebrating Mother’s Day is about celebrating the child.  Yes, I adored the earrings that Nate & Harrison gave me over coffee this morning, but I felt more like celebrating Harrison – the miracle he is, the person he makes me want to be, & the woman I am becoming as a mother.

  6. That's so true. I've been trying to find the words today to express some similar thoughts.

    Happy Mother's Day.

Happy Mother's Day! You looked like a proud mama in those pictures!

  8. Diana says:

Happy Mother's Day – your momma should be (and I'm sure is) so proud of the mother you've become to Harrison. And he is a blessed little boy to have a mother who cared enough about him to do what you have done in order to make yourself the best momma possible.

  9. Eclipsed says:

Happy Mother's Day. Such an eloquent and "dead on" post.

  10. Lisa says:

Beautiful family – your mom looks so proud of you, and you of Harrison

  11. JJ says:

Happy Mother's Day to you… it's been a pleasure reading your blog through our pregnancies and becoming moms, since our babies are so close in age. I don't have any friend around me with kids, so as weird as it might sound, reading your blog helped me a lot of times not feel so alone. It also helped me realize I was suffering from PPD, and I got the help and treatment I needed and am on the mend. So, Happy Mother's Day… for being a mom to Harrison, but also a support to the rest of us out there.

  12. Penny says:

You all do have the same eyes! That is incredibly adorable. :o ) Happy Mother's Day!

  14. Becky says:

I love what you said about celebrating the child. I never understood why every year my wonderful mother would give my sister and I a gift on Mother's day–until today. Today was also my first Mother's Day with my 11 month old daughter and now I understand. I wanted to thank her, my daughter, for allowing me to be the Mom and tell her how much I cherish everything she is. A bonus to have spent the day with my own mother as well. Happy 1st Mother's Day Blair!

  15. Molly says:

Yes, presents are definitely nice to receive but I soooo agree. I just received the best early mother's day gift. A new baby boy <3

Nothing else in the world compares.

  18. Kimberly says:

    Happy Mother's Day Blair!

Even in your darkest moments, there was strength. You might not have seen it, but as a reader, I did. How can that strength ever be considered 'broken'? (I also doubt your mother sees you as 'broken' either.)

    Be Well.

  21. The Mommy says:

Happy Mother's Day! I think it's wonderfully appropriate that you dedicated your son on a day to celebrate motherhood. Afterall, he's what put you into the club!!

PS You look amazing! I spent my mother's day cleaning behind the washing machine (don't ask) and felt less-than-pretty. ahem.

  22. Stacey says:

Happy Mother's Day to you! I love that he was dedicated on Mother's Day! I don't have my Mom here on Earth to celebrate with any longer, and I sure wish I did. Being someone who never thought I'd ever be able to have someone call me "Mommy", it is a very special day for me, even though bittersweet. You and your Mom are beautiful!
