Thankful on Thursday.

You see these girls?  Cute, right?  Two best friends, 17 years old, taking on Vegas for Spring Break!  That would be me on the left (obviously) and Nish from The Outdoor Wife on the right.  Almost TEN YEARS AGO, egads!  I can post this because she lives clear across the country from me & if she were feeling homicidal, it would take her at least a day to reach me, giving me plenty of time to hide.

vegas Thankful on Thursday.

Y’all know me.  I don’t do “Wordless Wednesday” or anything to do with wish lists, Top 5′s, flaming Fridays, etc.  (Not that I’m hating on those!  I actually love reading them, I’m just not a big participator).   I do, however, run McFatty Monday so I suppose that last sentence was rather hypocritical.  But Nish started “Thankful on Thursday” & I have to say – it struck a chord with me.  With so much swirling around in my life, it is a good reminder to sit down with a cup of tea (like tonight) & really think about the amazing blessings I have in life.  I tend to be whiny.  I tend to be jealous.  They aren’t characteristics that I am particularly proud of, but they are a part of me that I am constantly striving to improve.  & tonight, I have a lot to be thankful for:

  • A husband who’s profound love I will NEVER be worthy of.  & the fact that he’s a total hottie in the sack.
  • cinnamon tea with warm jammies & a cozy bed
  • Nish.  For being a friend that “gets it” on my worst days & is there 24/7.  Even from a different time zone.
  • That my son shows no signs of my illness affecting him
  • Words with Friends for iPhone
  • over a week out & I still don’t regret my tattoo icon wink Thankful on Thursday.
  • the encouragement of internet strangers I have never met
  • Diana Gabaldon, for creating many sexual fantasies between me & Jamie Fraser
  • Pottery Barn catalogues
  • saying prayers for another person’s uterus

I feel like I could keep going for hours, & maybe that is the beauty of this.  That before the joy & bustle of OH MY GOD IT’S FINALLY FRIDAY, we sit down & just process life at it’s best.

Amen. I am thankful for my new Pottery Barn shower curtain that I have been wanting for 4 years now. I decided TODAY that I had to have it TODAY and drove all the way to TTC to get one. In rush hour. With a baby that needed to be home in 1 hour from departure to eat dinner and go to bed. :) A woman on a shopping mission can not be stopped.

My friends and I were having a really bad day in high school one day (as bad as life can be at 16!) so we started a "wonderful list" and that whole day we write down things that were wonderful. It was so fun and uplifting. From the silliest things (our super cool designed BIC pens) to our families.
Good post. We take too much for granted.

That's how this started, too :) Check out Nish's first Thankful Thursday post where she explains our "Happy Lists." Basically the exact same thing! & sometimes I really, really, really want to make one again.

  3. I did Thankful Thursdays while I was pregnant w/ Nellie and got out of the habit. I need to start again because it was nice to sit and reflect.

I just started Outlander. Can't wait to read this HOT JAMIE SEX I have been hearing about so much ;)

  5. Elizabeth says:

Love this post. What a great idea!
I, too, struggle sometimes with jealousy (not proud of it, but, it's the truth). And, I heard someone say the following quote a while back and I repeat it to myself when I'm feeling that way…
"Don't waste your time on jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind. The race is long and, in the end, it's only with yourself."

Seems to help me. Hope it might help you, as well. Have a great weekend!

I've been following your blog for several months now after a friend at work introduced me-my little girl is just 2 weeks younger than Harrison! And if I didn't already think you were just the coolest person–the fact that you lust for Jamie Fraser completely solidifies you as the coolest person ever! I am totally in love with Jamie Fraser! lol

  7. Momma Bear says:

"Diana Gabaldon, for creating many sexual fantasies between me & Jamie Fraser" – Oh wow! Me, too! Ever since I read the first book :)

  8. Bonnie Bilawsky says:

oh gosh! I so remember that! That was one of the "few" times I actually made some good $$$$ I bought Nish's prom dress, and we shopped and ate REALLY well! Love all the memories. yes, we do have a lot to be thankful for !

  9. bella leanne says:

I have to agree on the Diana Gabaldon bit.
Seriously. I have her to thank for most of my fantasies….and my idea of what men should be like.

  10. Sarah says:

Funny, I've been saying prayers for another person's uterus all day, which is probably the same person as you, now that I think about it. I was thinking in the car about how I don't even know her, but I'm praying like I believe in God again all because of her.

  11. Megan says:

I believe you mean affecting, not effecting

    That is all :)

  12. Carrie says:

God Bless Jaime Fraser……God bless the man!

  13. Mrs. Joe says:

You know I need to participate in this! Thanks for the encouragement on Monday! Maybe I'll pick up "Thankful on Thursday next week. Have a great weekend!

  14. LawMomma says:

This made me smile. And just so ya know, I'm thankful for YOU for being full-on fabulous and funny. :)

  15. Cassie says:

I definitely have to jump in on the Diana Gabaldon bit. Best books I have ever read! I'd take Jamie or Roger anyday, anytime. :o ) I went to her reading/signing of the new book Echo in the Bone last September in Asheville, NC, and she mentioned how her husband (who is of Scottish descent) is "6'4" and red headed." Guessing that's where her inspiration for the hot stuff comes from?? ;o)

  16. olivea says:

I've put off reading the Outlander series, but all of these comments are motivating me to bump them up on my TBR list!

  17. Kate West says:

Ditto on the Jamie Fraser part.

    Y.U.M.

  18. Sandy says:

Thank you for this post. I am stuggling right now personally (I'm getting laid off from my job in two weeks and we have no idea how we are going to make it financially), so it's easy to focus on the bad stuff and not be grateful for the good things in my life. I have a wonderful husband who loves me even though I will be unemployed, a beautiful, healthy 8 month old daughter who is the light of my life, and amazing family and friends who are praying for us. Thank you for reminding me of this!

  19. ZOMG, Jamie Fraser. I am surprised I haven't called out his name during sex, yet.

  20. Amie says:

Love the idea of Thankful Thursdays, especially with all of the negativity in the world. Thanks for sharing!

  21. Cici says:

It's been quite a week for me and I needed to read this. Generally I'm the person who's always optimistic and always finding something to stay positive about. But this week has been so hard. In spite of all my issues right now I do have a lot to be thankful for and I need to focus on that in order to get past the obstacles. Thanks for the reminder:o)

  22. amaladominique says:

Blair….I *puffy heart* you…I really do!

    That is all.

  23. Michelle says:

    Oh, I love Jamie Fraser!!

  24. sharbar says:

I've just jumped the bandwagon too :) thankful on thursday is a great idea I cannot steal because I've already booked out 3 days for this sort of stuff.

Anyhoo, great blog & great reminder to be thankful for the big and small things :)

  25. Blair says:

I just came across your adorable blog.
Great things to be thankful for. I get so excited when I see the PB cataloge in the mail!!!
Is Blair not your real name? Anyway…I love it!! I love finding other girls named Blair b/c they are few and far between.
    xo

  26. Amy says:

I would be thankful if you would say some prayers for the state of my uterus. :-)

  27. Krista says:

Oh that is such a sweet idea. I think we should all reflect daily/weekly etc. on what we have been blessed with in our lives..not just at Turkey Time.

  28. Rebecca says:

Wow, what a great idea! It's hard when there's a lot going on to remember to be thankful for the good stuff. I'm using this comment to remember mine:
I AM pregnant. And healthy. After 5 years of trying.
Little kicks from my little man.
The most fabulous husband to ever walk the face of the Earth. Seriously, what did I do right?
A 3 bedroom house to move into right before the baby's born for the same price as my 400 sf duplex.
    Beautiful California weather.
Thank you Blair, for reminding me to take stock of all the amazing things happening in my life right now. ;)

  29. mountainmomma18 says:

I really like this idea. I am thankful for starting my vacation today and finding very cute new jeans- now I sound totally lame- but I kind of am, so yeah there's that.

  30. Heidi H. says:

    Mmmmk, Hooker Face–

I had to check out Words with Friends after I read this post, & now I'm effing addicted.

For that, thanks a lot. (look, I'm thankful)

I like Thankful on Thursday. And, at the risk of sounding like a hokey, mish-moshy mess riding high on female empowerment and warm fuzzies, I'd like to say that you probably are MORE than worthy of your husband's love. And he of yours.

Made me think of the things I'm thankful of. Thanks.

  32. Blair,

I have been reading your posts for the past couple of weeks. I just want to commend you on your honesty and willingness to divulge all. It is not often that we get this detailed of a view inside someone's head, and even though I am a dad, I can second that there's lots of crazy S@#t !!!

Keep it up and keep on keeping on. You've got a beautiful family.

If you ever have a free second, I'd love for you to see what I'm writing about with Red Pill Mama at Red Pill Parents. I'm sure you'll dig where we are coming from….

Have a great, sunny, spring-is-on-the way weekend!
