    My Little Buffalo

We have toes! A tongue! & Daddy's love of an all-carb diet!

It only took three days & my kid officially smiles & squeals when I pull out the cereal:

Unfortunately, I had to gently remind him that despite his love of rice cereal, he is NOT 12 months old & therefore must also drink his milk.  That took some encouragement, but he did enjoy his bottle & then settle down for a sweet nap on his floor mat.

Also, it’s amazing what you find once you can stop crying long enough to see the world.  Look, Ma!  Toes!!  He also found his tongue & is deriving great joy from sticking it out at us – hopefully I’ll snap it on camera soon.

p.s. there are snow flurries in the forecast, but have no fear!  our casa is stocked with milk!  & eggs!  & bread!  i’m just itching to put harrison in his sweet bear fleece suit & take pictures in a world of white.  so please, please snow!

  1. I'm so happy for you that if I knew you in real life I would so hug you! Hope it continues!

  2. Blair,

As a Momma of a (in 2 days!) 5 year old daughter and 2 1/2 year old son, I've read your blog now for a long long time and have laughed and cried and smiled knowingly while reading it. I've felt for you for the past few months as your beautiful baby boy just wouldn't/couldn't be the picture of sweet and content baby-hood that we've all conjured during months of pregnancy.

My son was diagnosed with reflux after 5 months of screaming (him), tears (both of us) and frustration (once again, both of us). At first I thought he was just different than my content-as-long-as-she-is-on-the-boob-and-cuddled-up-in-my-arms-firstborn and determined that he was just "noisier". Then the projectile vomiting started and I completely changed my whole diet – weeks and weeks of eliminating everything under the sun and waiting to see if there was a change (there wasn't – so you can tell All Knowing "Anonymous" that it ain't as simple and replacing a bottle with a boob). Eventually the pedi recommended meds and it changed him within hours. From the Screaming Monkey (a la Wizard of Oz) to a happy, charming and handsome baby boy.

I am wishing that Harrison has found his relief and can become the baby that you dreamt of (b/c really a hysterical baby with equally hysterical parents is no ones dream).

I wish many many many more days for you of the happiness and joy that comes from bonding with your baby. I also wish for you not to stress over the state of the house, meals, laundry, yard or dog hair. Here is the entire version of a poem of which I have the last verse as a sampler and look to it for reassurance when I am debating between the Dyson and the Baby:

    Cause Babies Don't Keep

Mother, oh Mother, come shake out your cloth
Empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
Hang out the washing and butter the bread,
Sew on a button and make up a bed.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She's up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.

Oh, I've grown shiftless as Little Boy Blue
    (lullaby, rock-a-bye, Lullaby loo).
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
    (pat-a-cake, darling, and peek-peek-a-boo).
The shopping is not done and there's nothing for stew
And out in the yard there is a hullabaloo.
But I'm playing "Kanga" and this is my "Roo."
Look! Aren't his eyes the most wonderful hue?
    (lullaby, rock-a-bye, lullaby loo).

The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
For children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep.

  3. Ok, so Karen's poem made me cry. So glad your household has the reflux under control. Prevacid is a God send in our house as well. If you're looking for snow, we have plenty here in Michigan, come on up!!

  4. Yay I am so happy for you!!! I can only imagine what you have been going through. My daughter had a little reflux, but nothing like what you have been experiencing. Hooray for a happy baby!

By the way, I'm having a giveaway on my blog for a pair of those baby leg warmers, they're called LegHuggers. I know you're a fan of them so I just wanted to let you know!

    Love your blog!

I will keep my fingers crossed that he continues to do well and his wonderful happy-go-lucky personality can shine through now that he is feeling better! I look forward to every blog you post and can't wait to see more of Happy Harrison!

  6. Bear fleece suit? From Carter's, by chance? If so, it's the cutest thing EVER when your baby is wearing it!

  7. Blair- I always love your pics of Harrison! My pics of Connor always come out so strange and over-flashed. What kind of camera do you have & do you have any tips for taking cute pics of your babe?

  8. We are in SC and are expecting snow flurries too! Stopping at Publix on the way home before I pick up Robert!

  17. I'm so happy for you and your family! H is so cute, I have a 5 month old so it's been interesting seeing you go through the ups and downs that I have just recently passed. More people need to be honest like you, I love it.

  18. My Son has the same Bib =)

  19. Yeah, so glad he is feeling better! Our son had wicked reflux and was on rice by 6 weeks in every bottle. It made a huge difference. Reflux is the devil. It's nice to see a smiling baby after all the crying! :o )

Maybe you should make sure you have a really good insurance policy on your DH, cause you know, accidents happen and there seems to be a trend here…. just sayin' (totally kidding of course)! I find myself doing the same kinds of things, but I think it's due to lack of sleep!

  20. Yay! I bet the squeals (of delight) are like music to your ears… so happy that he is happy :)

  21. Blair, I have been following you on the Bump for awhile, now, and finally discovered your blog a couple of weeks ago. I am SO glad that Harrison seems to be feeling better and that you are able to play with him, now. He is absolutely adorable. :)
