Whose child is this?!

img 2950 Whose child is this?!Horrible picture quality for THE MOST AWESOME REASONS EVER:

  1. I was playing with my kid.
  2. He was laughing up a storm & kicking his feet like mad.
  3. In turn, I was laughing with him, making it impossible to hold the camera steady.
  4. I was desperate to find an angle that showed off his amazing dimple, but obviously failed.

Y’all.  WHO’S CHILD IS THIS?!  36 hours into Nutrimegen, 2 doses of Prevacid under our belts, & viola – happy baby.  I only hope it stays this way & isn’t a Four Day Fake Out like life on soy + Prilosec.

Last night, Nate & I snagged a date night to see Sherlock (ah-mazingly fun) while my folks kept Harrison.  When we came home, he was already in bed & my parents were singing his praises – not the typical grandparent mush, but the “OH MY GOD, he’s a different baby already!”  He swang happily.  He sat on my mom’s lap during dinner & didn’t cry.  He smiled through his bath.  He even laid in his pack n’ play, playing with noming the face off his Sophie.

I didn’t believe them.  (kind of like how people don’t believe that he really cries more than 12 hours a day)   Until this morning, when our day has resembled the following:

  • Wake up at 6:45am.  Change diaper, begin bottle.
  • Swing happily for 30 minutes while Momma fixes breakfast & cleans up the kitchen.
  • Coo & laugh under playgym for 30 minutes.
  • Coo & nom on Sophie in crib for 15 minutes while Momma does a load of laundry & picks up nursery.
  • Has medicine & snack bottle around 9am.  Promptly falls asleep.
  • Nap in bouncer.

Do you notice something?  Lack of a specific word/action?  That-which-must-not-be-spoken-lest-Satan-hear-it?!  That begins with C???

img 2945 Whose child is this?!LOOK AT THIS CHILD.  Waiting patiently for his rice cereal & bottle.  ::swoon::  Not only is he quiet, but he just looks pleasant.

(p.s. how presh is that bib?  one of my best girlfriends made it as harrison’s “welcome to the world” gift…when she gets her etsy site up & running, i’ll let y’all know)

All I can say is thank the Lord for Rice Cereal that kept me from wearing nothing but spit up and very hungry child to full baby and clean momma. I hope it keeps working for yall!

  9. Lindsey says:

    Yay!

  10. AEberly(The Bump) says:

How exciting!!!! I pray that it is not a fake out like last time. I know how that goes. We are dealing with silent reflux and everything we have tried works for about 2 weeks and then stops. So, now we are doing oatmeal and rice cereal(switching back and forth because rice cereal doesn't have fiber and was having problems with bowel movements) every other feeding in breast milk. Good luck and I will continue praying.

  11. Shelley says:

I'm so happy for you both!! And I do love that bib!

  12. Heather says:

That is so wonderful! He is so adorable – what a lucky mommy!

  13. Stephaine says:

Go Harrison! I have a friend that used that formula. She said it is a lot cheaper by the case on diapers.com. Hope that helps.

  14. Amy says:

That is super great news. If only I could get my guy like that. How do you get him to wait for food so happy? My guy screams the minute he wakes up for food!!!
I am so happy for you, I hope this is a permanent thing and that you do not have to do through this agian.

  15. Alexis says:

Give the Nutramigen a good week or so to really work. Zach was the same way 3 days in and then the 4th and 5th day he was awful all over again. By day 8 he was all better.

  16. Sarah says:

Yeah!! So happy to hear you and Harrison are having a good day! :-)

  17. Stacey says:

Oh Em Gee! LOVE that smile! I'm with you on hoping it isn't a 4 day fake out! I'm totally keeping fingers crossed for happier days ahead for both Harrison and you! :)

  18. Anon says:

    Who's = Who is

Whose = possessive, the correct word you are looking for

Sorry, I had to point it out. Congrats for a non-screaming kid.

    • heirtoblair says:

      Thanks!

lol, but I'm running on slow recovery at this point of my sanity. I'm cutting myself slack in the grammar department.

  19. Babe_Chilla says:

All hail prevecid, I REALLY hope this is the solution for you! You, H and Nate deserve to have these days be the norm!

  20. Jessica says:

Oh yea!!! I've been thinking about you a ton since your last post. Feeling so so bad for you and your sweet man that was in pain.

I was a colicy baby. Horrible. Screamed 14 hours a day. This was 28 years ago, before refulx was really talked about . My mom said it was the worst 4.5 months of her life. She couldn't handle it. I feel so bad I was such a horrid baby.

That said, I have no memory of it (of course) and grew up to be a very very happy child and an optimistic adult.

Thought you'd like to hear that there is hope, ever for the pain in the ass kid.

    Hopefully the worst has passed.

  21. heatherdw says:

YAY!!!! I'm so happy for you!!! My little guy just got diagnosed with reflux (though he does not have it nearly as bad as Harrison) and his crying after feedings was breaking my heart, so I can only imagine what you were going through with 12 hours of crying. I hope it continues to go well for you!! He looks incredibly happy!!! So glad you get to play with a happy baby today!!!

  22. olivea says:

Yay! I am so happy for you and for little Harrison. Let's up this new routine does this trick!

  23. HOORAY! Good news all around!

  24. sandy says:

I need that bib and I don't even have a baby (yet)…so cute! And your baby is so cute!

  25. Nicole says:

    Hypoallergenic formula = liquid gold

  26. Kacie says:

I am so happy for you guys!!!! Man when the meds and formula combo finally works it makes a huge difference. Enjoy your beautiful little boy :)

  27. Mama Tully says:

Hi there! I have been following your blog for a little while and just thought I would say hello! Your son is so so so cute! While I can tell that motherhood has been rough these first few months for you, your blog is histerical! At least you have managed to keep your sense of humor! Congrats on this turn around…I hope it keeps up for you!

  28. Amy says:

O.M.G. blair! i'm so happy for you!! hopefully this keeps up!

  29. Mae says:

I'm pretty ridiculously happy for you right now and praying it continues!

And someday maybe you can tell me how you just let that whole grammar police thing slide like that. I can't imagine I would have had the patience, espesh considering what you've been dealing with lately

:::Waiting in corner for grammar police to pounce on intentionally planted "espesh":::

  30. Holly says:

Oh, man – I am happy to see this. My baby had AWFUL reflux BUT she didn't cry a lot – she would just, mostly, scream while eating. But we tried everything.

We finally landed on a magical solution of: Prevacid 2x/day, 1/2 Soy + 1/2 Sensitive formula (Nutramigen didn't work for us), 1t. cereal/ounce of formula….I think that was mostly it.

Anyways! I know it sucks and am super stoked for you.

  31. Ok Blair STFU!!! No fair!!! We've been on the Nutramigen and Prevacid for over a week now and no such luck… he's screaming in the Bjorn with hubbs as I type UGH!

I'm tempted to try the rice cereal bit… maybe that's our missing link?? How much rice cereal do you give him? And I broke down and ordered Colic Calm, it has a money back guarantee so what the hey…

:::::blinks blood shot eyes and continues to search for colic miracle cure:::::

    • heirtoblair says:

It's at least worth asking your pediatrician about rice. We're spoon-feeding a few tsp twice per day before a bottle.

Obviously, I do not claim to be a pediatrician or have the knowledge, but that's what we were told to do & so far, so good.

  32. Bec Brodie says:

So happy you two are happy. I've been praying that you would find a solution to the crying. He is the most darling baby and I am glad that you can enjoy being mom a little bit more now.

  33. Shannon says:

SO happy it's gotten better for you! Harrison is adorable:-)

  34. SOOO super excited for you! When you said Nutramagin was the formula you were trying now I knew it would have to help! It was the one thing that helped our daughter most I think! Hope Harrison stays this new improved happy "Who is this kid?" baby! Enjoy every moment (from here on out :o )

  35. Laurie says:

Blair – That is great about Harrison. I too have a crabby reflux baby boy who is almost 8 weeks. We are on Prevacid, soy and rice cereal in a bottle, still not helping all the way but much better. One big problem we have with the reflux is that C will not sleep at all on his back, the pedi said this was common in reflux babies. If Harrison has this problem then check out the Nap Nanny, http://www.napnanny.com, it has been so helpful with the my little reflux terror and his sleeping. I hope Harrison only improves from here on out, because those moments when they are happy and content sure are starting to make my days a lot better!! Good Luck!

  36. Jenni says:

    Yay Harrison!

  37. Jenni says:

PS.. I know you get this all the time but let me jump on the "your kid is so gorgeous" bandwagon. Cause he is. even when he was angry. :)

  38. Krisito says:

Dude, my child STILL won't entertain himself for more than 20 minutes at a time, much less almost 90! I'm so happy for you guys!

  39. lindsey b says:

SO glad you found the magic equation! amazing how quickly your sanity starts coming back once the screaming stops, right? it's awesome when you start getting out of survival mode and more able to just enjoy your little man. love it! if you guys are feeling up to it, let's have a play date again soon!

ps- thanks for the shout out on the bib. i'm working on it y'all!

  40. Celeste says:

He looks SO much like you in the picture!
