What "colic" looks like.

Yes, that is my child hollering it out during Tummy Time on his mat.  Poor bug.

I pride myself in being a good housekeeper.  Even a fantastic housekeeper.  & a decent cook.  I am no Martha Stewart, but I can hold my own against a bevy of housewives.  Yet my once fastidiously clean home has been ransacked.  I used to welcome anyone to eat off my floors, but now, we’re lucky to simply see them.  A screaming baby is simply not conducive to any household details, including cleaning, laundry, or grocery shopping.  Which explains why we ordered a pizza last night & have no cream for our morning coffee.  It also explains why Christmas presents are still a hot mess on the kitchen table & we’ve been tripping over decoration bins for almost a week.

Thanks to this innocent-eyed little guy & his never-ending quest to let the entire universe bow to his presence:

He's too cute to have colic….sorry to hear it's so rough going. Hopefully when he can start some cereal it will help. Love your blog!! I have a little guy born 9/25, I have been following since we were both pregnant. I found the nester through your blog and it inspired me so much I started my own blog. I always look forward to your posts :)

I have been through colic twice and can assure you that:

    A) It will end, I guarantee it!

    B) Believe it or not, when your babe is a bit older you will hardly remember these colicky times ;o)

    C) Your house will be back to it's former clean self one day, until then….it is what it is!

oh man. We seemed to escaped colic (thus far) but had horrid moments of acid reflux and super early teething. And I would literally CRY that I couldn't just have five minutes to clean/tidy/windex- whatever. I honestly felt like I could cope with the crying as long as the house was clean. ha ha!

    Hello Miss Blair
I have been following you for some time now. I had my baby a week after you did so we have been on the same schudule .( I love you ) I am going back to work on Jan 11th and wondering how I am suppose to do it . Clean the house, go to the gym, spend time w/ the baby, be a good wife?? I am freaking out about going back to work – Thanks for the blog XO

Don't feel too bad. I normally pride myself on a super clean house too, however it hasn't had a really good cleaning since before my baby was born. She is a month old and doesn't even have colic. So I really have no excuse. I would just rather play with her than clean at this point :)

  10. Stacey says:

Ha! Wow those pics look familiar. My house looked a lot like that too. It got better after he grew out of his screaming…until I got pregnant 6 months after he was born.Run after a 12 month old *and* keep an impeccable house? Yeah, not happening right now!

  11. Jessie says:

Thanks so much for talking about colic openly. I can identify so much with what you are going through b/c I lived through it only a few months ago. I know you probably hate to hear it, but it really does get better. Take it day by day and make sure to take care of yourself!

  12. I was raised by my Mother, the neat-freak. My friends used to say that my house smelled like bleach. They were afraid to come over because they were afraid that they would make a mess. Yikes! That said…I have the same OCD cleaning ways. Having 2 LOs (2 and 3 months) has finally changed me. It's been difficult, but I even have had people over without cleaning first (gasp!)!!! I'm just trying to go with it. I hope that my boys' friends remember me for being a great Mom and not for the lady's whose house always smelled like bleach…

  13. molly says:

Um, is it bad that my house often looks like this but I don't have a baby with colic? I have a crazy toddler though so that has to account for some of the mess. Or just no time to properly clean/organize. It'll get better though. It's the "new" normal everyone was talking about when you were pregnant.

  14. Anonymous says:

Have you tried the gripe water? My husband's niece had colic and it was the only thing that seemed to work.

  15. Alisa says:

I just found your blog by accident. I was reading about your son and his colic. I can totally sympathize with everything you are going through. I have been through it also and I know how horrible it feels. I have sat on the floor crying many times because my baby wouldn't quit crying either. My daughter is now 4.5 months old. The first 6 weeks of her life she would scream and cry for hours on end. I haven't read much of your blog yet so I don't know if you are nursing him or not. Well, I am and I decided to give up dairy. I read that a lot of babies can't tolerate dairy. Honestly, within 2 days she was an entirely different baby. I am still dairy free and I have not regretted it yet. So if you are nursing him, then you might want to give it a try. Good luck!
