Dear child of mine,

You just ate 6 wonderful ounces & are deliciously full.  You are dry.  You have been awake since 7am, with the exception of a 30 minute snooze.  You are snuggled into your swing with a fat cozy blanket by the fire.  PLEASE STOP SCREAMING AND GO TO SLEEP.

img 2865 Dear child of mine,

A child your age should not have bags under his eyes.  Or be purple around the eyes from exhaustion.  YOU LOOK LIKE YOU HAVE A DRUG PROBLEM.  & as a result, so does Momma.

I feel your pain. Since 11:00pm last night my daughter has slept three hours. I am ready for a large triple shot coffee right about now. I will get you one too.

  2. Susan says:

I have been following your post for quite some time now, and I must admit "I am addicted". I do feel your pain about not fitting into your clothes post baby. I also have a new born. The pictures posted are not bad, however to look professional. You might try The Limited. There clothing is professional and the accessories are great. Or so I think. Good Luck!

  3. Lindsey says:

I don't have kids yet (due in March) so I have no tips for you, but you have a BEAUTIFUL baby! And that's a compliment from me cause some babies are UGLY!

  4. Crista says:

I'm sorry you're having such a hard time! Does it help (even a little bit?)that I think Harrison is just totally gorgeous!? Seriously- one of the cutest babies ever!!

Hang in there, and Happy New Year!

  5. Alison says:

Oh, Blair. I hope you both get some sleep soon! Good luck and happy new year!

ok so i only would do this as a last resort, but what about infant benadryl? I'm sure people will think im nuts, but I'm in nursing school and I know doctors that have recommended infant benadryl to help calm baby during travel. I'm not saying do it regularly, or even more than a couple of times, but maybe just once to help him get the sleep he needs. Or even chamomile drops so you aren't literally drugging your kid. My parents gave us "dimeatap cocktails" sometimes to calm us down, worked like a charm… and not to toot my own horn, but I'm probably one of the more stable 22 year olds out there today. Also, I volunteer in a NICU and the nurses there use sucralose drops (they call them 'sweeties') to help calm the babies down (and to help them keep the pacifiers in the mouth), so maybe you could find those online.

I mentioned this in another post, the CONAIR Infant Sound Machine is a godsend.

Just keep telling yourself, "And this, too, shall pass…"

Can I ask a possibly dumb question? Does the little man get a few good burps out in the middle of his meal and at the end? I know you have tried everything but maybe it's something simple?

Also, if he does have reflux it wouldn't hurt to slightly elevate the head of his bed. Lying flat on his back or even his side could make the acid could come up and it would be impossible to sleep.

My daughter was a perfect baby and then my son came along and he was her complete opposite. He acted like I never fed him enough, refused to be held in my right arm and wouldn't settle until he had that one good burp. I nearly commited myself! It took awhile to figure him out and I am still learning (he is 3 & 1/2) so I feel for you!!! It gets better :)

  8. Kaitlyn says:

How old is he now? Levi had reflux and colic. Holy crap, I feel your pain. The reflux meds made the days tolerable enough that I didn't make DH come home once a week, but it still wasn't good. The it seemed like one day it all got better. We tried every colic solution available and it didn't matter. Nothing worked. (Sorry, that's not that encouraging). But then we hit 12 or so weeks and boom, new baby. He's still kind of a crab, but he sleeps and smiles as well! Hang in there love!

  9. Sarah says:

I totally agree with what anonymous said – my parents used to give me and my brother 1/2 doses of baby benadryl when we travelled until we were about 3. The pediatrician even recommended it!

  10. Bella says:

It get's easier!! My Daughter is almost 4 months, And things are finally falling into place. Everyone told me that 3months is the magical mark, and at the time I wanted to shoot them in the face. After she passed 3 months, I swear she changed. It was like night and day. And now I don't have the urge to drop her off at a Fire Dept anymore! Hang in there Momma!

  11. Kimberly says:

I totally want to do a challenge with you for losing weight! My baby is 9 1/2 months old and I still have weight to lose. Your blogs are such an encouragement for me b/c I feel like I am the only one at times that STILL can't wear all the pre-baby clothes. :) I have the DVD 30 Day Shred by Jillian Michaels, but not totally motivated to do it every day b/c I can't move afterwards…….hahahaha

  12. Jenni says:

my children are 18 and 4 months.
    Both teething.
my 4 month old son has the same bags under his eyes. I feel your pain.
    How does momma survive?
Baileys in my coffee on the rough days.

Hope you have a good new years Blair! This too shall pass! (thats what I say to myself over and over allllll day long)

  13. anonymous2 says:

In regards to the baby benedryl…I am an RN (out of school) and please do NOT do this without talking to your pediatrician first. From reading your blog, I don't think you would, but I know how desperate you can get with a colicky baby!!

Good luck, it will get better!!

  14. Rachel says:

Damn. Burping was all I had! He is unbelievably adorable. I can't stand it!

  15. anonymous2 says:

oh…and the sweeties are sucrose not sucralose….so sugar not splenda :) it's just a specific concentration sugar water, you could try dipping the paci in sugar water, but don't get your hopes up…studies only show effectiveness in infants up to 4-6 weeks old :(
